I just had the rear tire replaced on our 2000 RSV that we bought last spring. The guy that did the work said that the Dunlop 404 that was on there was too light of tire. Now have E3 on back. Amazing, what a difference in handling and ride. The front tire is a 404 with about half tred left. Will replacing the front with a E3 improve the ride as much as what the rear did? The guy at the shop said to run it out and replace it when it needs to be.

I don't know how many miles you have on the front but if it were me and I could afford it I would go ahead and change it. The 404's are not very good tires for our bikes, in my opinion. I went thru two sets of them before I wised up...

YES very much so!!!!

Go with the 130/90-16 this size will give you better handling on the Hwy and parking lots plus better slow turnarounds as well. 404 is junk in my books.

Thank you for the input. I'm convinced, I'm going to change out the front 404 with an E3.

Buddy - what does the 130/90-16 convert to for the E3 bias. I'm not real knowlegdeable when it comes to this. I looked on the Dunlop website, that size isn't listed.

Thanks again for the help!

I am in a similar situation. the previous owner had put 404 on and were there when we bought it. since I had not ridden in a long time, i really did not know the difference. then i had a slow leak to flat on the rear and put on the E3.

the front 404 still has tread, so i will run it down and put an E3 on it. I like the difference the E3 had for the back and want to put the slimmer E3 on the front.

If the economy was better, i might have changed the front, but i will just wear it out.

Dunlop 404's are decent tires and certainly safe and sufficient for our bikes. Are there better tires, YES! Dunlop 404's wear out fairly quickly on our bikes with typical rear tire life of 4000 to 8000 miles and front tire life of 5000 to 9000 miles. Some people will get less life and some more depending on the specifics of their riding.

Dunlop E-3's are very good tires, but my rear tire was wore out after only 10,000 miles. I got better mileage from Michlin Commanders.

I had the E3 130 installed on the front yesterday afternoon. When I got on the bike to ride home, I could tell immediately the difference. The 40 mile ride home was like riding a different bike. The handling is now similar to what my 1100 Vstar was. I'm lov'in it....it feels like 200 lbs has been taken off the front tire.

Thanks all for input.

Tried to order a Michelin Comander yesterday and they are not available for the rear right now. I have about 8k on the back tire and probably could get another 2k but dont want to take a chance with it so I ordered the Elite 3 so I will now have them on the front and back. They are about $30 more so I hope they last longer.
