Grisolm1 Posted September 10, 2010 #1 Posted September 10, 2010 I have a fan over ride switch but lately my fan seems to work only when IT decides to. Usually only when cold, not when I need it to work. Fan failures haven't been brought up here but figured I'd ask before troubleshooting the wiring.
saddlebum Posted September 10, 2010 #2 Posted September 10, 2010 Assuming the wiring is ok and it is acting up even when turned on by the fan overide switch, I would say thats a pretty good sign that the fan motor itself on its last legs speacially if it works cold but not when it is hot. try running 12 volts directly to the motor and see how it runs then.
JoeKanuck Posted September 10, 2010 #3 Posted September 10, 2010 I don't know the whole story but the previous owner of my bike said he had the fan changed, so it seems they do occasionally fail. I imagine you could find an aftermarket fan that would fit the bill.
rhncue Posted September 10, 2010 #4 Posted September 10, 2010 I was of the understanding that the fan has power running to it all of the time and the switch grounds the unit so that it works. When you wired a bypass are you sure you wired it correctly? Dick

Grisolm1 Posted September 10, 2010 Author #6 Posted September 10, 2010 I know it WAS wired correctly. I put a switch in to ground the wire coming off the thermostatic switch (I think, my memory isn't what it used to be ) It worked all year till just now. Could be an intermittent connection in my wiring or possibly a fan going flaky. Cooler out now so it's not urgent. I'll just stay out of traffic when possible and let my right wrist to the cooling duties. Winter project.
GeorgeS Posted September 10, 2010 #7 Posted September 10, 2010 that plug at the sensor has a tendancy to come loose. Might just be bad electical contact at the pins of the sensor.
Dragonslayer Posted September 11, 2010 #8 Posted September 11, 2010 I have another fan if you need it.
