BigD Posted September 9, 2010 #1 Posted September 9, 2010 I'm leaving for a trip Sat. morning and I don't trust my HID light any more, so I'm puting the old Silverstar back in. Well, I took the HID lightbulb out, and I can't find the power cord for the headlight to reinstall the Silverstar. I thought I just left hanging when I put the HID in. I know this sounds crazy, but I can't see it anywhere. Where would the cord be coming from? I will be greatful for any help? Thanks
Eck Posted September 9, 2010 #2 Posted September 9, 2010 would it not be the same cord/ wires/ light socket to run either light bulb, no matter which one you used? You have me stunned...
BuddyRich Posted September 9, 2010 #3 Posted September 9, 2010 Did you cut any wires ? The 3 prong female socket is part of the bikes wiring.
BigD Posted September 9, 2010 Author #4 Posted September 9, 2010 I didn't cut any wires, I just unpluged the old light and pluged the HID light in. The HID light came with it's own plug to that pluged into the light housing.
Eck Posted September 9, 2010 #5 Posted September 9, 2010 Quote: The HID light came with it's own plug to that pluged into the light housing. Cant you just unplug the HID light from the stock light housing and end up with what you had in the first place?
skydoc_17 Posted September 9, 2010 #6 Posted September 9, 2010 Hey BigD, Could it be that the HID light came with an Adapter that you connected to the wires that powered the old Silverstar bulb? So you need to remove the adapter and the socket for the Silverstar light will be exposed? Earl
Eck Posted September 9, 2010 #7 Posted September 9, 2010 Skydoc, You are saying the same exact thing I am... just in a different way.. He just might have to post some photos so we can see what the heck he has..
BigD Posted September 9, 2010 Author #8 Posted September 9, 2010 The HID light from HID Country has the light bulb attached to the plug that plugs into the light housing. It has 3 other wires attached to it. I don't undderstand why the 3 prong plug it not there anywhere.
BuddyRich Posted September 9, 2010 #9 Posted September 9, 2010 An HID light leads should be 2 largers ones and they go to a Ballast. there would also be a hi/lo controller and that would have 2 smaller wires going to the bulb. You'll need to remove the ballast and the controller. The controller is probably plugged into the original 3 lead headlamp socket
Eck Posted September 9, 2010 #10 Posted September 9, 2010 probably plugged into the original 3 lead headlamp socket................ yep, ....what he said...this is my guess too...
BigD Posted September 9, 2010 Author #11 Posted September 9, 2010 Buddy you are right, I followed some wires back to a part that was connected to the old HID light. That must have been the controler you were talking about. Untaped it, and there was the 3 prong plug I was looking for. Thanks everyone for your help, I'm the kind of guy that knows just enough to get into trouble when doing this stuff myself. I just got ten times my money's worth in membership dues. Thanks Again!!
BradT Posted September 10, 2010 #12 Posted September 10, 2010 Cant you just unplug the HID light from the stock light housing and end up with what you had in the first place? Bingo. Brad
Marcarl Posted September 10, 2010 #13 Posted September 10, 2010 And I was going to post something smart,,,, but now I can't think of it anymore.
