mini-muffin Posted September 5, 2010 #1 Posted September 5, 2010 Thought some of you might be interested in seeing this as it goes across the country. Starts here in NC in Kitty Hawk and end up in Santa Monica CA. Looks pretty interesting all the bikes are 1916 and earlier. We're gonna head over to see them before they leave Kitty Hawk this week. http://www.motorcyclecannonball.com/ Margaret
Dano Posted September 5, 2010 #2 Posted September 5, 2010 Heck, I figured with all of Jeffs spare time now, you guys would be joining them!
Nighthawk II Posted September 5, 2010 #3 Posted September 5, 2010 Thanks for the heads up on this Mini. Think I'll try to be in Maggie Valley on the 12th and see some of them. I'm gonna try to be there around noon to have some lunch and relax a bit. Been wanting to go to Salty Dogs for the cat fish any way.

Big-bird Posted September 6, 2010 #8 Posted September 6, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the Heads up Mini, some of us in North west Alabama are gonna ride up to Rocket Harley and then back down to Fosters Harley where they will do Dinner. We really do enjoy these old bikes, These guys who keep these old bikes running are to be commended. Edited September 6, 2010 by Big-bird
Aussie Annie Posted September 6, 2010 #9 Posted September 6, 2010 Geez, wouldn't Quickstep love to see them Some years back we were crossing the big paddock [Nullabor] from west to east..and met some old blokes on vintage Vincent motorcycles. They had pulled them apart, shipped them from England, put them back together, and were riding them around Australia. :happy65: One of them said to me " Old bikes shouldn't be in museums, they should be ridden, that's what they were made for"
mini-muffin Posted September 6, 2010 Author #10 Posted September 6, 2010 I totally agree Annie, same goes for old cars. What good does it do if they don't get used. Glad you all are enjoying the link. Hope more folks can get together through the route would be neat to see some pics as they go from place to place. Margaret
Guest tx2sturgis Posted September 6, 2010 #11 Posted September 6, 2010 Thanks for this posting babe...looks like it will be passing right thru where I live, with an overnight stop just 90 miles from me. Might have to go check it out.
Nighthawk II Posted September 11, 2010 #12 Posted September 11, 2010 Bump........Just keepin this alive so more folks can see it.
Carbon_One Posted September 11, 2010 #13 Posted September 11, 2010 Too bad the route they're taking wasn't closer to me. Would love to see them myself. Larry
Zfrebird4 Posted September 11, 2010 #14 Posted September 11, 2010 Helped me understand a little better what Dad's old 1920's something Indian must have looked like that he was riding when he saw Mom on her parents front porch, and pulled into the drive way, ... and the Tharp family was then under way! 1rooster Posted September 13, 2010 #16 Posted September 13, 2010 I got to see them yesterday in Greenville. I got a few good pics and will try to upload some. Earl Rode over to Maggie Valley today and met up with Nighthawk for lunch at Salty Dogs. Then we rode over to Wheels Through Time museum and waited, and waited, and waited and waited some more then the bikes started arriving.I would love to tag along on next years run as support crew.I can see it now.A Venture with a trailer picking up broke down bikes on the side of the road.Hmmmmmmmmmm
mm482 Posted September 13, 2010 #17 Posted September 13, 2010 I would love to be part of the ride, but I don't think I could take riding at their speed. Earl
Guest tx2sturgis Posted September 13, 2010 #18 Posted September 13, 2010 (edited) On Saturday I called a national program on XM/Sirius radio and told them about this run...so at least 10 other people know about it now! Edited September 13, 2010 by tx2sturgis
Condor Posted September 13, 2010 #19 Posted September 13, 2010 :sign20:Geeze... The first three stages, and they ain't outta North Carolina yet, and the mortality rate is climbing.. Hope someone makes it to Santa Monica in 2 weeks..... Can you imagine being caught behind those bikes and chase vehicles going over the Rockies, or in L.A. traffic.... Almost as bad as following a 2ndGen//// :rotfl:
Brake Pad Posted September 13, 2010 #20 Posted September 13, 2010 What about a Meet and Eat at Salty Dogs at noon on the 12th?I'm in. Really Nice peoples there
Nighthawk II Posted September 14, 2010 #21 Posted September 14, 2010 A few pictures of the first to arrive in Maggie Valley. Big crowd since the Thunder In The Valley Ralley was going on this weekend. Well MOST arrived under their own power.
Nighthawk II Posted September 14, 2010 #22 Posted September 14, 2010 A few more pictures from Maggie Valley.
Nighthawk II Posted September 14, 2010 #23 Posted September 14, 2010 And a few more. The fellow in the last pic should look familiar to some. He wasn't a contestant.
bknsaddle Posted September 14, 2010 #24 Posted September 14, 2010 Just watched them arrive in Huntsville, AL. Great looking old bikes! You could actually look at those motors and know what everything was...very straightforward and simple....Oldest was 1907!
mini-muffin Posted September 14, 2010 Author #25 Posted September 14, 2010 Glad so many of you are getting to see the old bikes. Wasn't sure how many of you would be interested when I posted the link. Pretty cool to see them old bikes even if they aren't moving on their own power. Margaret
