bongobobny Posted September 4, 2010 #1 Posted September 4, 2010 I just finished mounting and wiring my rear view camera and display today, and it works like a charm!! Now I can see the whole world behind me right up to my trunk!! With the type of driving Ido, which is a lot of interstates as well as main roads, I have my left and right mirrors adjusted the way they would be on a cage, with the right miror looking down the lane on my right, and the left mirror down the left lane. I have a pair of parabolic mirrors on each mirror which helps the view directly behind me but not as good as I like. Now with the camera and display I can see everything I want and need to see!! Glad I made Becky buy me this for my birthday last month...:wow:
Evan Posted September 5, 2010 #3 Posted September 5, 2010 Sounds like a good add-on and birthday present Bob. Congrats to you!
CMIKE Posted September 5, 2010 #4 Posted September 5, 2010 Hey that really sound like a cool accessory. What brand it is?
Zfrebird4 Posted September 5, 2010 #5 Posted September 5, 2010 $$$. Nice idea; wonder if it is a :stirthepot:distraction though? Ride safe and well! JackZ
N3FOL Posted September 5, 2010 #6 Posted September 5, 2010 I am guessing it could be an aftermarket back-up camera installed on his bike.
bongobobny Posted September 5, 2010 Author #9 Posted September 5, 2010 I am guessing it could be an aftermarket back-up camera installed on his bike. Uhhh, yes it is!! Not sure of the brand, bought it from an organization called Tad brothers. Pictures, Geez...
MasterGuns Posted September 5, 2010 #10 Posted September 5, 2010 I want one that views the asphalt underneath.
SaltyDawg Posted September 5, 2010 #11 Posted September 5, 2010 That's a pretty good idea. I have seen these systems at Autozone before if I am not mistaken.
BradT Posted September 5, 2010 #12 Posted September 5, 2010 Can you shoot videos or still pictures with it as well. Brad
rlyons Posted September 5, 2010 #13 Posted September 5, 2010 You have more electronics on there than most fighter jets.
RoadKill Posted September 5, 2010 #14 Posted September 5, 2010 With all those mirrors and rear cameras, don't forget to look forward once and a while
hydraulicman Posted September 5, 2010 #15 Posted September 5, 2010 I would like more information on what appears to be signal lights. Where did you find them?
bongobobny Posted September 5, 2010 Author #16 Posted September 5, 2010 If you mean the LED arrows on the trunk, Auto Zone, Flying J, Pep boys, Wally World, etc. I drilled a hole or 2 in the bottom and ran all 5 wires into it, installed my 5 to 4 adapter for the trailer lights, and wired running lights on the side, brake ( the clear pods) and turn signals on the trunk. From the 5 wire adapter I also ran the leads to a light bar that was mounted under the trunk before it became a trike, as well as feedsing the trailer connector. The light bar is now on Joe Neamon's "Skunk" trunk as it wouldn't fit. The wires are still available for when I find a thinner trailer strip light...
a1bummer Posted September 5, 2010 #17 Posted September 5, 2010 Sweet! I would've put as close to the center of the dash as possible myself. But then the only accessory I still REALLY REALLY want for my scoot is Jessica Alba!
bongobobny Posted September 5, 2010 Author #18 Posted September 5, 2010 OK after giving it a trial run today, first it needs a hood or an anti glare screen. Second, I made a wrong choice on the camera, the 120 degree is too wide and needs more range instead. No problem as Becky now wants me to install a camera on the back of her Intrepid R/T as the rear visibility when backing up is non existant, sooo, I will buy a more appropriate 90 degree or less camera. Also, this is actually the second disaplay I bought as with the original kit the 3.5" screen is more like what I would call a 5 or 7 inch screen, and the 2.5" currently on there is a tad too small. I was thinking the 3.5 would have been more the size of my Tom Tom in the car. Maybe they sent me the wrong display with the original package deal. No problem there as either it wil be mounted in my car hooked up to a DVD player, or in Becky's car for her back up system. Another problem is the display mount arm is worthless and the display shakes too much. No problem, I can McGuiver some kind of stabilizer arm. Other than that, now I can tell at a glance what is behind me...
CaptainJoe Posted September 6, 2010 #19 Posted September 6, 2010 Now if you could calibrate that, with say a rearward pointing 50 caliber... You'd really have something... Just sayin...
bongobobny Posted September 6, 2010 Author #20 Posted September 6, 2010 Now THERE's an idea whose time has come!!! Tailgate disrupter...
csogbk Posted September 6, 2010 #21 Posted September 6, 2010 Awesome, I too would like more info on the turn signal arrows!! We have a guy at work that has installed a forward looking infra red camera system on his Hyabusa show bike. Its the ultimate farkle!! Infra red deer warning lmao!!
bongobobny Posted September 6, 2010 Author #22 Posted September 6, 2010 OK the arrows, as stated, are available at a lot of places, Auto Zone for one, and are under $20, and come in pairs. They are actually a truck mirror accessory and wire up easily enough. They are adshesive backed, and wlil mount on any clean flat surface. Just run the plus wire to either the green or brown line for left and right turn signals, and the other line to ground, and you are good to go. I drilled two tiny holes into my trunk for the wires and then RTV'ed the holes to make them waterproof again...
