Center Stand Spring

Would someone take a look their first gen center stand and let me know if the spring is compressed or extended while the scooter is on the center stand. I just got the parts in to put the lever arm and spring on so I can use the center stand but not sure which way it goes. The way I think it supposed to go gives me the suspiscion my spring is too long.

Spring is not stretched out when it's on the center stand on an 83. Should be the same on all the 1st gens.
