Looks like you found what you need!!

 

My son is building a control box for his that will activate the "switch" automatically when it senses audio input from the ipod. If you're interested, his screen name here is Silver Soul.

There had been a thread at one time about tying the audio units ability to display and select tracks to an mp3 player, but suspect that is more complicated and may require a specific type of mp3 player,

Came across a 13pin din (Kenwood) to ipod cable online but don't know if Kenwood and Clarion are the same pin outs.

For those that have split the fairing on a 2nd gen... what type of connector is at the control unit? Is it a male or female 13 pin connection?

The schematics should have that info.

 

I should have looked first, Dingy's schematics don't have any detail on the connector to the CD unit. I'm not sure what the Yamaha database might have. will look at Partshark... nope, not there either
