Stanman Posted August 31, 2010 #26 Posted August 31, 2010 To remind us 2nd Gens that, despite the whine, we have a pretty sweet ride? WTF you talkin' 'bout???????? You must have a back pocket full of sugar when you ride.
Dano Posted August 31, 2010 #27 Posted August 31, 2010 To remind us 2nd Gens that, despite the whine, we have a pretty sweet ride? Is that whine coming from the clutch or the rider?
halfwitt Posted August 31, 2010 #28 Posted August 31, 2010 Is that whine coming from the clutch or the rider? The whine is from the bike and the wine is from the rider!
dray Posted August 31, 2010 #29 Posted August 31, 2010 are ya that OLD! its #4 on your list WOW!!! I still remember mine and it was a pussycat compared to some today she was fast and nimble you thought it and you were there if it was just a lane change or a five mile stretch now i find im happy doing just a bit over the limit
LilBeaver Posted August 31, 2010 #30 Posted August 31, 2010 ... Don't blame the bike, blame the idiot riding it ... * A lot. A good friend of mine has a CBR F4i, and we ride together a lot. He is capable of 300-500 mile days with only mild discomfort. He loves his bike and loves to ride. He likes it because of it being so lightweight, easy to handle and he finds it enjoyable to ride. I have ridden it a few times and it does drive very nice, overall they really are nice bikes; but with my knees and back it is just not my cup of tea for an extended ride. As mentioned, I too seen idiots on all sorts of bikes. I have been passed in my lane on either side of me by the crotch rockets, HDs, etc. All that said, there are a lot of idiots driving 4 wheeled (or worse yet, the rental trucks or some of the 18 wheelers out there). I understand the point of the original poster - and this is going astray, so I will stop.
Yammer Dan Posted August 31, 2010 #31 Posted August 31, 2010 Are we getting forgetful Dan? Not on top end.... Must be the age thing again.... Top end, Low end, Middle end, Side end, Brown Sugar rules them ALL!!
mrich12000 Posted August 31, 2010 #32 Posted August 31, 2010 (edited) M.E's and coroners:223: agree, Trees like bikes. Old ladies turning left along with cell phone users, like the antics of riders doing their best impressions of human helicopters. Edited August 31, 2010 by mrich12000 Ronch crotch
Skid Posted August 31, 2010 #33 Posted August 31, 2010 Top end, Low end, Middle end, Side end, Brown Sugar rules them ALL!! Maybe so, but I seem to remember when Brown Sugar wasn't able to keep up with the Midnight....
craigatcsi Posted August 31, 2010 #34 Posted August 31, 2010 Adrenaline Rush!! I am soooo glad they didn't have them in the late 70's. I rode dumb enough on the power-houses of those years. I rode a friends 600ish cc crotch rocket a few years ago and it was very light in the front end. I had no trouble bringing it up! If I were single with no family, I would like to have one to abuse for awhile. But, I would do it on back roads or a track or someplace where I wouldn't put other drivers at risk. craigr
jemorrisonjr Posted August 31, 2010 #35 Posted August 31, 2010 I have to put my 2 cents worth in.... Its not the bike!!!!!!!!!!!! I ride the FJR and I dont ride like a idiot... but I have seen many ride like that..
Marcarl Posted August 31, 2010 #36 Posted August 31, 2010 All this serves the same purpose as noise, it impresses the rider.
craigatcsi Posted August 31, 2010 #37 Posted August 31, 2010 Right or wrong.... Isn't blaming the bike for how someone rides, kind of like blaming the 'Assault Weapon' for someone using it against Innocent people? craigr
phertwo Posted August 31, 2010 #38 Posted August 31, 2010 When I see people riding like that I remind myself that they are the ones that become the statistic and raise my insurance rate. They also remind me that I am not one of them and that I should be even more considerate and cautious while I ride. I want everyone driving around me to think 'people that ride crotch rockets drive like idiots, but I like those Royal Star riders..' Probably won't happen though.
Snarley Bill Posted August 31, 2010 #39 Posted August 31, 2010 since i love and build fast street bikes, to me a sport bike is a engineering master piece, a work of art, a chance to have a real race bike at a bargain price. i to can't believe that any one can walk in and by one. to an experienced rider they are the ultimate in safety engineering, top notch handling, the best brakes available, etc. they are the ultmate riding experience if your a very good rider. i,m all for having crotch rockets available to the public, but they do need some way to be more selective on who they sell them to. some of these kids are excellent riders with unblievable skills. unfortionately. some have no common sense yet. i can always tell the experienced riders, they wear good protective clothing, and are very curteous. there are nuts out there on all kinds of bikes. hell i'm out there every day.
Yammer Dan Posted August 31, 2010 #40 Posted August 31, 2010 Maybe so, but I seem to remember when Brown Sugar wasn't able to keep up with the Midnight.... She was more than able. Rider wasn't.
timgray Posted August 31, 2010 #41 Posted August 31, 2010 After being in a bike dealership recently I'll tell you the reason for Crotch rockets. dirt Cheap motorcycles. They are incredibly cheap compared to a touring bike or cruiser. There are a couple of expensive ones.. a hayabusa for example is expensive but are far more motorcycle than 98% of the riders out there can handle. Most of these kids cant afford a $16,000+ motorcycle so they go with a cheapie low end bike that happens to have a high HP to weight ratio.
lemosley01 Posted August 31, 2010 #42 Posted August 31, 2010 The same purpose as a Corvette, Porshe, Camaro, Challanger, '69 GTO, etc. To get wimmens to look at you and think you are cooler than you are!!! What'd ya think?? RR PS. Can you tell I don't have a Corvette, Porshe, Camaro, Challanger, '69 GTO, or a crotch rocket? Clearly that isn't the case, because I am married and am not chasing women, and I own a ZX-14. I enjoy riding my ZX-14 on the street. It has power everywhere, awesome brakes, turns well, and is (for a sportbike) comfortable. It's my bike of choice for spirited SOLO riding. I know a lot of cruiser riders think they have torque and sportbikes don't make any torque, but a ZX-14 has makes 80 lbs-ft at 3000 RPM, which is just off idle on that bike. And it makes 160HP to the rear wheel; I can roll into it at 65mph in 6th gear and it pulls like the RSTD does in 3rd at 65mph. The RSTD is WAY more comfortable and is more enjoyable for just cruising around and much nicer for two up. Plus it looks cool, too. Sorry you had a bad experience with a *rider* - a lot of them are young and stupid, and will act like fools no matter what they are riding. It's not the bike - it's being young and stupid. I know that I was there once, but now I'm a little older and more considerate. Some of these guys simply don't know any better; they don't realize their actions reflect poorly on ALL sportbike riders, and sometimes on all motorcyclists.
GeorgeS Posted August 31, 2010 #43 Posted August 31, 2010 IF--- you have never ridden one, then its pointless to try to explain it to you. I have one-- Every couple of weeks I take it out for a 50 mile run, look at it this way. Its sort of like haveing a sip of the best Kentucky sippin whisky, now and then !! Zero to 60 in 2.6 seconds, has a profound effect on your soul !!! Even if your over 65 years old.
midnightventure Posted August 31, 2010 #44 Posted August 31, 2010 A good sport bike can give the same thrills as a 200,000 dollar sport car.
