Camping coffee pot

I love my coffee and buy my own beans and grind them, when I go on my bike trip the end of Sept I will be camping every night and was just wondering if anyone has any ideas about a camping coffee pot. When I was younger I had a percolator but I know things must have evolved since then.

I have a funnel shaped device that holds a #1 cone filter. it works great.

 

 

There are several ideas HERE. Scroll down to the 1 Cup Pour Over Brewers section.... or lower to the Cone Filter Holders to see what I have. Mine is made of plastic and cost about $5 as it came with a "insulated cup" that now has been recycled.

 

Whatever you get it should be made from inert materials and be very durable.

 

 

Anoter idea is to cold brew overnight.

Personally i like the coffee press best as theres no paper or anything else needed. just add water boil, throw the coffee in and when its done push the plunger down to filter the grounds out and pour.

when youre done, rinse everything and go!

 

Here is one Ive used, but next time I would get the all metal one with no plastic so I can throw it on a grill directly.

I try to plan my route where I can stay at KOA's where there is electricity and showers. I take an electric percolator coffee pot. Works for me.

I also like the 1 cup filter papers and small cone that fits over a mug. I have used a percolator or more recently a french press, but if you're concerned about cholesterol, then unfiltered coffee (which includes french press and metal permanent filters) needs to be avoided as its high(er) in cholesterol.

 

I think the paper filtered coffee tastes better too.

We still use the old perc over the stove whilst camping. We both love fresh ground beans and the flavour of camp coffee. Even the grounds that get into the brew adds a little texture to things lol.

 

They have good percs for the stove at Cabelas.

 

Secret we found with the perc. Dont let the thing boil too hot. Turn it down once it gets going or its gonna bust grounds all over the place. A nice slow perc is what you want.

I still use my 110/12 Volt pot that is over 25 years old now and works great. Draws considerable power and about half way through brewing I start the bike, no problem. Makes 6 or 8 small cups, or 2 real cups Any Truck stop will have one similar to it, maybe even better now days.....

I usually cayy an inexpensive lexan (plastic Bon Jour) french press from Bed Bath and B... it works very well.

 

The strainer is a little finer than many presses, and has a strainer at the pour spout to catch particles...

 

I usually roast my own beans...when I'm not feeling lazy... and this little press is awesome.

 

I also have a small pot / pan to boil water in... making the coffee is the easy part... boiling the water is the trick!

Just buy a Goldwing. I think they have a built in espresso maker.

All kidding aside I just use the old fashion percolator.
