fisheyes Posted August 29, 2010 #1 Posted August 29, 2010 So I was riding home and about 50 mi or so from home I started noticing a klunk when i would go from on power to off power, figured i would check it out when i got home but the bike had other ideas, i was coming around a corner and let off the gas, got back on the throttle and nothing but a BAD grinding noise, the bike seems to go in and out of all gears just fine but no power to the wheel and a bad grinding noise if put into any gear when running, can anyone tell me what i might be up aginst before i start tearing this thing apart?
flb_78 Posted August 29, 2010 #2 Posted August 29, 2010 Sounds like it's something in the driveline. Possibly the u-joint or the splines on driveshaft and the final drive.
fisheyes Posted August 29, 2010 Author #4 Posted August 29, 2010 Forgot to mention that the sound seems to be coming from where the drive shaft goes into the transmission. guess its time to read up on how to take the driveshaft out:( I much prefer riding to wrenching!!!

Sounds like the middle gear assy is pooched, from your description so far. If so, it engine pulling time, to dig into the tranny.
fisheyes Posted August 29, 2010 Author #6 Posted August 29, 2010 well if thats the case I may have a lot of good venture parts for sale in the near future, I put a deposit down on a new 09 concours that i was planning on picking up tues or wed (I was riding home from the dealership when it happened), but selling this was was going to help ease the blow, may have to rethink the new bike purchase if this one needs major work. guess ill tear the driveshaft out tomorrow and see what i find.

You don't ride a Venture to go by another bike. It's bad Karma/Juju, and bad things happen.... They got feelings ya know.... http://www.cast-aways.com/images/unlucky.jpg
fisheyes Posted August 29, 2010 Author #8 Posted August 29, 2010 The venture was on its way to a family member, i figured that was enough to keep karma on my side but i guess not... keeping my fingers crossed that i dont have to pull the engine.
Riderduke Posted August 29, 2010 #9 Posted August 29, 2010 Muffinman had the same thing happen to his 83 turned out that he stripped the teeth on the wheel good news is the part is only 95$ at the dealer at the time he replaced it and had no problems since. Hope this is it David
Grisolm1 Posted August 29, 2010 #10 Posted August 29, 2010 My wheel splines were (actually still are) pretty toasted. Hopefully this is all it is on yours. Just picked up another wheel hub from a local guy selling some venture parts. Easy to replace when the wheel is off.
Venturous Randy Posted August 30, 2010 #11 Posted August 30, 2010 I suspect driveshaft splines in the rearend. Have you ever taken the rearend off and greased the driveshaft where it goes into the rearend? RandyA
