Kidh2 Posted October 30, 2007 #1 Posted October 30, 2007 How do you remove the front speakers? I split the fairing and removed the four nuts holding the speakers but can't figure out how to remove them?
Freebird Posted October 30, 2007 #2 Posted October 30, 2007 The front grills don't come off if I remember correctly. you remove the 4 screws from the back and remove and install the speakers from the back. It's been a while so I may be wrong but I THINK that is how I did it.
BuddyRich Posted October 30, 2007 #3 Posted October 30, 2007 I think I remember pulling the grills. Seem like there was a small philips holding them in also. But like Don,Its been a really long time and don't recall.
Kidh2 Posted October 30, 2007 Author #4 Posted October 30, 2007 I saw and removed the philips screws but the front grill still wouldn't come off. I am afraid to force it and possibly crack it. The only way I can see the speakers can come out is through the dash removing the grills. Could there be any type of double faced tape keeping them stuck?
BradT Posted October 31, 2007 #6 Posted October 31, 2007 Jeepers I can not remember either, but I do remember that they go in from the back side of the fairing. Seems to me the cover came of with the studs with them. After the speaker went in the cover with studs go through the slots in the speakers. Brad
99silver Posted October 31, 2007 #7 Posted October 31, 2007 Start the nuts back on the studs and give them a gentle tap. Gary
DLBCAL Posted October 31, 2007 #8 Posted October 31, 2007 As others have noted you have to remove the phillips screw which releases the front grill. Because the metal frame of the speaker is kinda wedged in a slot in the inner cowling, the front grill, including the studs has to be removed in order to get the speakers out. As suggested start the nuts on the stud and just lightly tap or nudge them to loosen the front grill. For speakers I highly recommend the Polk Audio DB401 marine speaker. Excellent sound and durable for outdoor use.

Kidh2 Posted October 31, 2007 Author #10 Posted October 31, 2007 Thanks for the help....I'll give the tap a try this weekend and let you know how it worked out.
DLBCAL Posted November 1, 2007 #11 Posted November 1, 2007 Which did you use..the 3.5 inch or 4.0 inch?? The four inch are a perfect fit. I swapped the front ones last summer and I will change the rear this winter. Very, very nice sound especially from a low power amp.
