a1bummer Posted August 28, 2010 #1 Posted August 28, 2010 I just got an MKII trunk delivered the other day. But I need the brackets that bolt the front of the trunk to the chrome mount. The ones I circled in red in the picture. Anybody have a couple they want to part with? I had also bought a mount assuming that it would be a simply bolt onto my MKI. But it doesn't. So I'm going to have to either modify the mount to fit my MKI, or modify the trunk to fit my MKI mount. The plus side to the later it that I might be able to take it on & off with a key like the MKI trunk. Who knows? Bill Oh ya! a couple of those pouches I circled in blue would be nice as well.
friesman Posted August 28, 2010 #2 Posted August 28, 2010 what are ya trying to go? are ya trying to put the larger trunk on your MK1? if so try and track down a bracket for an 85 and they were still a mk1 but had the bigger trunk like the mk2's Brian
a1bummer Posted August 28, 2010 Author #3 Posted August 28, 2010 Really? I did NOT know that. I learn something new just about every day on here. And that's alone is well worth the price of admission here. So just for the sake of clarification, the trunks on the 85's don't come off with the turn of a key like on my 84? And the trunks are the same on the 85 as they are on the 86-93? Thanks a ton, Bill

a1bummer Posted August 28, 2010 Author #5 Posted August 28, 2010 Well after a bit of searching on eBay, I found a few pictures of the different mounts. The mount for the 85 is definitely different than on my 83 & 84. But it won't work for the trunk I have. From the information I can find so far surfing the net, them 85's still have the same trunk as my 83 & 84. But a couple years ago I DID see another MKI with a MKII style trunk. I assumed they had just done what I'm trying to do. And I DID find a picture on the net of a MKI with a MKII style trunk. At least I'm assuming they were both MKI's. All the rest of the 85's I've been finding have the MKI style trunk. From what I can tell without holding both mounts in my hands, I just have to cut off the brackets I circled in red in the picture and cut off the brackets I circled in blue off of my spare MKI mount and weld them onto my MKII mount. Do you suppose it could be that simple? Thanks for the input thus far. Please keep it coming. Maybe someone can clarify the info I've been finding. Bill
friesman Posted August 28, 2010 #6 Posted August 28, 2010 My 85 does have the larger trunk like the mkII , but it has a backrest like the mkI and no rear speakers or controls. It is removable with keys and has a nandle on top. Condor may be right, I hadnt thought of availability of the rack as they were only made for one year. Brian

Brian Actually the trunk is the same size but the bottom attachment points are totally different than the MKII. It's a real conundrum....
Chuckles Posted August 28, 2010 #8 Posted August 28, 2010 To make the MKII trunk fit the MkI you must have the complete sub-frame off of a MKII. This also includes the rear bags. Don't know of any way other than that. Dano bought the rear sub-frame from my '86 to do this mod to his '83. He wanted larger trunk and bags. Chuckles
Poledar Posted September 18, 2010 #9 Posted September 18, 2010 I have a bracket. Make me an offer keeping in mind that I am looking to buy a ZR-! Corvette ($122,000) with the proceeds *evil grin*. Not really--just make me a reasonable offer and plan on paying actual shipping charges extra. POLEDAR:stirthepot:
