86 CB into 83 Standard

OK I going to install a 86 OEM Yamaha CB system in my 83 Standard.

I installed the AM/FM system last year so that part is done.

 

I bought a CB & Radio package deal at a garage sale last weekend.

Came with CB - Antenna splitter - cables - noise filter -AM/FM Cassette radio unit - Amp unit - driver head set JM -driver&passenger CB remotes - radio remote - two speakers .

Items missing so far that I know of is

CB holding tray

CB antenna

 

I did some reading on the forum so that should help me some on hot wiring the CB.

I have a few Q?s

 

#1 driver intercom lead cable has a pigtail (3 wire) about midway down the cable what does it plug into?

 

#2 Driver & Passenger CB remotes do they plug into the wiring harness?if so does anybody have a way for me to hook these up for a standard system?Might be better off for me to buy a wiring harness from a 83 royal?

 

#3 5 pin cable from CB to amp system will I be able to hear the CB in my headset or speakers or both?

 

#4 Will I be able to talk on the CB with my head set if so what do I key to make CB work?do not know if I have the complete system or not?

 

Sorry for the Q's and being a pain, but I'm wanting to hook up the CB system for next years Eureka Springs meet.

I like to know what I'm getting into before I start tearing the bike apart and know some on how this CB unit works.

Dragonrider will probably jump in here, if not PM him.

They did that to Clay18's bike. Used a momentary switch on the left handlebar for the PTT.

I installed the cb in Clays 83 and had already done one in my 83 Royale.The easiest way to get it working is to use the yellow wire from the cb harness to a switch that goes to ground (ptt). I would suggest that you get Clay18 to let you know Which wires I connected to power the unit. or do what I did on my 83 I cut all of the audio wires out of the 86 doner bike now I have an extra audio harness on my bike I did not use any of the original wires to connect the system and mine works just like it did on the 86 I removed it from.I also hooked the PTT wire to the radio scan button on the remote.

If you do this all you will need to know is the 2 red wires on the original harness should be jumped to the add on harness for power and the PTT wire to ground and you will have a working system.
