Engine Temperature

I had a triple gauge set on the winshield of my old shovelhead when I headed west in 1990. While stuck in traffic in Sturgis, oil temp before the cooler was pushing 400 degrees.

I wished I was like everyone else at that point. I knew my nuts were frying, but wish I didn't now how hot it really was.:bang head:

It normally ran upper 200's on a hot day with my feet flat on the floorboards. Lay them out on the pegs on the crash bars, and it would be up 30 degrees in a couple miles.

Must be the straight up legs pushed air to the back cylinder?:confused24:

The aluminum engines give up a lot more heat than the old iron cylinder shovel did. I don't know how hot the evo's and twin cam HD's or any others run.:scratchchin:

When I asked I was thinking of Naugh-T's bike. She has a gauge but not sure how accurate it is. Normally on a hot day it will be around 230-250, but when we went to Dover, hot day, stop and go traffic it was over 260.

The Victory site had no answers either and figured someone here would have a decent answer. I also figured someone here would have a smart a$$ answer and again you proved me right. :rotf::stirthepot:

Rlyons Thanks figured that was normal, but was curious when it is time to shut it off.
