rickardracing Posted August 24, 2010 #1 Posted August 24, 2010 Ok, I did the Midnight Ride here in Michigan over the weekend. I have a temp guage. Bike usually runs about 190-200. As I am sitting in line at the Mackinaw Bridge (about 15 minutes) the temp slowly climbed to 230. I was about 4 ft behind the bike in front of me. Could the exhaust from the bike in front cause the temp to climb on mine? Once we got rolling, it went right back down to 190. I have noticed when I get into traffic the temp climbs. Is this normal? It's a 2007 Venture.

It's a 2007 Venture. Yes its normal because you are no longer forcing wind across the radiator to assist with cooling the water in the radiator. When the fan turns on it helps but once you start riding again the wind helps the radiator more than the fan does. Its a lot better than the vtwins with no water cooling. my
slick97spirit Posted August 24, 2010 #4 Posted August 24, 2010 Mine does the same thing. Didn't realize it till I put the temp gauge on it, then it bout drove me nuts till I asked the same question.
rickardracing Posted August 25, 2010 Author #5 Posted August 25, 2010 Thanx for the info guys. The first time I saw it do this I about crapped myself. I figured the lack of airflow would make the temp climb but I did not realize it would climb so high.
Flyinfool Posted August 25, 2010 #6 Posted August 25, 2010 Will it help the bike stay cool if you keep the revs up a little while in traffic? I would think that a slightly higher RPM, maybe 1500-2000 RPM, while stopped would make for a higher voltage to run the fan a little faster and also keep the water pump pumping faster. Or does it just not matter?
