Battery powered vest

Recommended Posts

I just ordered a Gribling battery powered vest that is 7v. and it comes with a charger that looks like a cig. liter plug. There is a plugin in the fairing, does it have ennouth juice to charge the battery for the vest? If not will a bigger fuse work or will I have to rewire it?

The power port on the Venture is only 5 amp. Check with Gerbing to see how much power it pulls. If more than 4 amps you will need to rewire since the wiring for the power port would not handle 10 amps well and may cause electrical failure. Using a relay would work great for this situation. Also check the power port itself for its load capacity.

You should be fine just to recharge the 7 volt battery pack. According to Gerbing's site, it only draws 1 amp from the battery pack. It's only a 2.2Ahr battery. Only way to find out is plug it in and see if the fuse pops.

Ahh the "Smoke" Theorem of Electricity test? If the smoke escapes, the device is broken and costs money to get all that smoke back into the device.. Usually the more smoke you allow to escape from an electrical or electronic device, the more it costs to get all that smoke back in there.. Usually it's cheaper to get a new device with it's smoke capacity still intact than trying to get all that smoke back into the faulty device..

Dunno why people carry on about voltage and amps and current when it's all about the smoke and trying to keep it from escaping from the devices..

Don't believe me? Try it out yourself.. ;)
