Snarley Bill Posted August 22, 2010 #1 Posted August 22, 2010 i kind of don't like this era to much. it's a world made out of plastic throwaway crap. i think i will finish up my years enjoying the neat collector stuff i had when i was a kid, and things were high quaility, and hand made out of real metal and wood. since i won't be able to ride much longer, i think i'm going to start collecting and fixing up some of the neat things i had. i think i was awful lucky to live in the days when folks valued the neat things they had to work so hard to get. i feel sorry for the next generation that will have nothing but cheap plastic crap to fall back on.
eagleeye Posted August 22, 2010 #2 Posted August 22, 2010 Geez Bill, Sounds like me talking. How about this? Sitting at American Archeology. Steve
Snaggletooth Posted August 22, 2010 #3 Posted August 22, 2010 You got that right. Quality and durability are things of the past. I have had a few chances to revive some old furniture.....dressers, chairs and end tables that my daughter thought I'd fallen out of the tree over. Brought them back for another hundred years of service..I hope. She saw them a bit differently when I was done and I hope she will enjoy them all of her life. Don't even get me started on guitars today. Mike

Bill, I invite you to remember that everything runs in cycles. Always has and probably always will. Remember when we were a lot younger and we started importing products from Japan? Talk about cheap crap! You were lucky if it worked out of the box. Same with Tiwan, then China, now we are looking at Pakistan amd India. Sure I hate the throw-away attitude because of the effects on the environment, but those same items we are throwing away have made our lives so much easier than our fathers and grand-fathers could have ever immagined. Can you imagine the economy today if everyone only bought a car every 20 years, or a computer lasted for 15. We need to manufacture products which can be recycled, not thrown away. I believe we are seeing the beginings of that attitude. It will take a while, but we will get there as long as people like you keep pushing for a better life. Remember the old song about the "good old days, when times were bad".

Remember the old song about the "good old days, when times were bad".if everything wasn't made so easy for all of us, we would be back in the old days where people were forced to work for the things they have and appreciate what they earned. this fast lane is what did us in. there is no going back now. we are in over our heads and the bubble is about ready to burst. sad day for the usa. worst part is, no one thinks it can happen to us.
