Hummingbird Posted August 19, 2010 #1 Posted August 19, 2010 I changed the oil in my bike 3 times this year and only have 2500 miles - but I've got several years on my compressor and haven't changed the oil yet. I can't find an owners manual but the last time I talked to anybody about air compressor oil, I was told to use a non detergent oil because it didn't foam - is that still the way to go ?? btw it's a 220 volt 175 psI
midnightventure Posted August 19, 2010 #2 Posted August 19, 2010 I believe so. There are no combustion byproducts in the compressor oil so I dont worry about it near as much.
Sylvester Posted August 19, 2010 #3 Posted August 19, 2010 Why did you change the oil in your bike so many times? I have 131,000 miles on mine and I only change it every 5000 miles. I only change the oil in my compressor (120 gal. with twin cylinder Quincy) every two years.

flb_78 Posted August 19, 2010 #5 Posted August 19, 2010 At the truckstop, I put 5W40 Mobil 1 synthetic in our compressors and changed it every 3 months. Compressors ran quieter and cooler. Ours was similar to this one, but older. http://www.industrialaircompressors.biz/files/943922/uploaded/champion9%2520(2).JPG

kj5ix Posted August 20, 2010 #8 Posted August 20, 2010 (edited) My book on the compressor says straight 30 non-detergent or Syn 10W30 http://www.chpower.com/chpdfs/manual04/227706_1106.pdf Page 5 on the right side in the middle. Edited August 20, 2010 by kj5ix
rlyons Posted August 20, 2010 #9 Posted August 20, 2010 I use Amsoil 10W40 synthetic in mine and have ran it for 20 years now without any problems at all. I change it about every 2 years.
