I needed to grease the splines, so I also took the drive shaft out,,,, not a biggie,,, I done this before, even wrote on how to do it the easy way, without extra tools. Now it WON"T go in,,, it just won't go in,,, I mean it just won't engage. I can wiggle the u-joint, turn the U-joint, see the u-joint, get the shaft started into the u-joint, but it won't engage.

Anybody have any ideas????????

4 hours at this, and I'm a little frustrated.

yeah, you're too sober. Walk away from it, cool off and drink a few beers. When you come back, it should slide right in.:happy34:

I had the same problem in my RSV. No matter how I stuck my tongue out, the drive shaft would not couple to the u-joint.

I finally bumped the engine with the starter the joint and it just fell in.

Next time use the "good" profanity right away, instead of taking two days to get the job done.

It just doesn't pay to be stingy with the four letter words.

I was gone all day Carl or I would have taken care of this early today.

Did the same thing last time myself. I think I even posted on here that it didn't want to play fair!!! Glad you got it.

Did I miss something?

What was the trick?

Got to hold your tongue right!!!!! no if's and's or but's, it's either right or it's not going to work.

Actually, the spline fits into the u-joint 'just so', it needs to be lined up to within 0 degrees tolerance, at least that is a good assumption. Close will not be good enough, so patience is a virtue. One time you'll get it right, right off the bat, and the next time it may take 4 hours! YA!! Just don't go nuts and use a hammer, won't help none at all.

I hit the leading edge with a file to knock off the sharp edge of the splines. Not much just took the sharp corner off the front. Rod
