Just curious how many miles you guyz are getting on a set of rear brake pads. I just pulled mine @ 27,660 kilometes (17,187 miles). These are the OEM "original" pads (first time change). I swapped them side-to-side about 8,000 km ago and now the outer is almost to the metal and the inner ain't got much more than that.

I do use my front brake a fair amount and they still have lots of wear left.

I swapped my pads to HH Sintered (sp) and they are lasting a heck of a lot longer than I had expected. I do roughly 30,000 miles (48,000 kms) a year on the bike and I'm at around 25,000 miles on the pads now.

I recently did a road trip and crawled under / over the bike to have a proper look at the pads and I was surprised to see that the rear pads were wearing evenly.. As we all know, the inside pad typically wears down much sooner than the outside pad but not in this case. I still have a lot of brake pads left in front and back.

I'm not shy about using the brakes on this big bike.. so these HH sintered pads are getting a good work out, and they are lasting a nice long time.

I got to where I used my front brake all the time and never used the rear brake unless in wet weather or going down hill on a dirt road..

The front pads last a long time. The rear pads on the RSV dont last long no matter what kind you put on it. I never liked the rear brakes on the RSV.

Using the rear brakes on this big bike, especially when slow maneuvering is essential.. I do a lot of rear brake dragging when negotiating slow speed areas and such.. much easier to handle the bike.. ;)

I had to change my pads with each rear tire, about 8000 miles. OEM pads both times.

Im on my 2nd rear tire now with the HH pads.

I was able to get the "HH" pads from a local supplier. Glad I checked them before my trip in Sept pulling the trailer coz we'da been broke down somewhere had I not... either that or the brakes that were there woulda failed and we'd never have to worry bout nuffin no moa ...

I have 31,600 miles on the bike with original pads. Ride solo and downshift regularly when reducing speed and negotiating curves. Wear bars show lots of pad left.

In my opinion you were quite fortunate to get even 17,000 miles out of the rear OEM pads - it is VERY common for them to be completely worn out by 10,000 miles. I rarely use the rear brake on my RSV, but the stock pads were on metal before 12,000 miles. EBC HH pads last me 40,000 on the rear.

In contrast, the front stock pads last MUCH longer - probably because there are twice as many of them! I got about 50,000 miles on the stock front pads.

I use the engine for braking a lot and most of the time, use the front brake in conjunction with the back. I'm glad for the hint on this site that suggested swapping the inner & outer otherwise I would have been on metal long before now.

We got approximately 24,000 out of our first set of rear pads. The second set has 16,000+ on them and they appear to be about 50% but that could be deceiving as I think they were faster as they get thinner.

We use the rear brake quite a bit due to our gravel roads and as others have said, "it sure helps the low speed tight turns". I think our rear pad mileage is higher than others because of where we live. We have no traffic lights in the county and we have to drive quite a ways before we get into a real city with traffic.

I know it is a little late, but for what it is worth I have ~19k+ Miles on my rear pads. I am using the EBC organic (NOT the HH sintered ones) and I'm on the rear brake A LOT (it is a must for low speed maneuvering). I switched the inner/outers maybe around 12k (I'd have to go look it up - that info is on my other computer...) but I have relatively even wear on my pads.

I opted to NOT go with the HH sintered ones because I would rather replace my brake pads than a rotor and I feel that I have adequate stopping power without locking up the rear wheel with these pads the way they are.

Like I said, I know I'm a day late and a dollar short, but I figured I'd throw my :2cents: in.
