phertwo Posted August 12, 2010 #1 Posted August 12, 2010 (edited) I'm talking about the lower engine covers that are painted all black where the top ones have the aluminum (material?) showing at the edge. I am debating whether or not I should do this, as it is a quick and simple mod that's free. I would just like to see some pictures of the whole bike, not just an up close of the engine. Anyone have any pics they'd care to share? Thanks! Edited August 12, 2010 by phertwo terminology
eagleeye Posted August 12, 2010 #2 Posted August 12, 2010 lower engine covers ?????????? Don't understand, Steve
phertwo Posted August 12, 2010 Author #3 Posted August 12, 2010 This is what I was thinking of doing, just I would like to see a picture of the whole bike - not just a close up like this. Notice how the cylinder head covers fins are all shiny. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p157/dz302/Tour%20Deluxe/0fff8e76.jpg
RSTDdog Posted August 13, 2010 #4 Posted August 13, 2010 I have thought about this too.I know there are places that do diamond cut and other effects to the fin edges, but don't remember if they do the lower ones or just the ones already done by yamaha. I think it would look good. You could be the first! RSTDdog

eagleeye Posted August 13, 2010 #6 Posted August 13, 2010 I like that. After I looked at the link, I had to go out and look at my bike/engine. That looks sharp. And if you do it and don't like it, it's easy to black the bottom back out. Steve
phertwo Posted August 13, 2010 Author #7 Posted August 13, 2010 Yes, true enough about the repainting. Either way this is a cool mod that takes an hour at most and only requires sandpaper and tape. I just wanted to see a picture of the whole bike from afar, not up close engine pics. Oh well, maybe I will be the first to take a picture of the whole bike after the mod.
Condor Posted August 13, 2010 #8 Posted August 13, 2010 I just got through posting a thread on this subject with some 'howto' pics. I looked at the link above and really didn't like what I saw. Sanding leaves a rough seperation line between the black and silver. Not sanitary enough for my liking. However I gotta add that if the fins are already black there's not much choice, but in my case I picked up a set of side covers off Ebay from a '99 which are all silver. Now I'll still have the mint OEM's stored away if I ever want to go back. Take a look
