Rev Posted August 12, 2010 #1 Posted August 12, 2010 On a 2nd Gen RSV, how do you know if the water pump is circulating the coolant? Also, when should the radiator fan kick on?
Sylvester Posted August 12, 2010 #2 Posted August 12, 2010 The fan will kick on at around 215 degrees. If your water pump isn't growling then it is working fine. When you change you coolant next time, open the pump and check for wear and have another O ring seal on hand. I have 131,000 miles on the original pump.
Rev Posted August 12, 2010 Author #3 Posted August 12, 2010 Thanks for the info. I've got 138,000 miles on mine. I asked the question to check myself to be sure I wasn't going loco. So, I started getting steam out of the thermostat housing. Changed it out and am still getting steam and a leak. Could the O Rings in the thermostat housing not be seeded correctly? Or is something else going on I'm not aware of or missing?
Sylvester Posted August 12, 2010 #4 Posted August 12, 2010 Have you comletely drained and flushed the system? Have you replaced any hoses and radiator cap? At the age and miles they would be suspect. I have changed my hoses and cap. Other than that you may have a gasket/O ring leak.
