The nearest traffic light is 50 miles away and I think the nearest traffic activated traffic light is several hundred miles away. So, this is not something I have to deal with, but I think I would do just as you did.:happy34:

I didn't know they had traffic lights in Wyoming............man you all have really made some progress haven't you?:thumbsup2:

law is in wisconsin that if you honestly dont think the light is going to change you can legally go after 45 sec.

Yup! I've had to use this method a hundred time already. Quite often around here, even if there is a cage behind me, the light still won't change. I've even had a cager get pizzed off at me because the light wasn't changing quick enough.

I was with our State ABATE group for a lobby day in 2006 when we were trying to get the red light problem and a few other things changed.

It was an easy sell with my state senator. He rides, and had been stuck at a light a few months earlier. He understood.

If'n I get stopped at the dreaded long light, I simply lower the kickstand, kills the motor, lift the kickstand and restart the motor. Of course , I'm sitting directly over the grooves of the censor wires.

Sounds like a good idea for embedding some neodymium magnets into the heal of your boot. :hihi:

I've placed about 6 neodymium magnets on my bike that I salvaged out of some hard drives. 2 on the front forks, 2 by the front foot pegs, and two on the trailer hitch. But it still doesn't seem to help much.

When the light wont change, make sure you are over the sensor, you can tell where it is by the cuts in the road. Kill your engine, then restart it. The process of starting it sets up a magnetic feild that trips the sensor and off you go. I doubted it when I first heard it, but tried it at a light that would hold me up every morning on my way to work and it does work.

South Carolina enacted a "2 minute rule" last year. ABATE pushed it.

But, I've been using serious magnets for several years too. I don't have the problem.

If the signal is tripped by coils in the pavement (look for cut lines below you), the magnets make the coils think you are a garbage truck (avoid brand jokes here).

On line, the one I have on my RSTD was something like Signal Magnet.

It's about 1"x3" and glues to the bottom of the frame.

But Tractor Supply sells "Cow Magnets" in the animal health dept., 3 pk for $8.99.

I put these on my Strat. (Contact cement + straps.)

Either bike WILL trip the light as good as a car. Just roll to stop with the magnet over the coil.

Cow Magnets,,,,,, a whole other story,,,:shock3:

Check this magnet out. It would probably change the light a full minute before you arrive! :shock3: And you'll be doing everyone a service by picking up every nail, screw and small car.

The only problem is that you'll never get moving because your frame will be attached to the garage floor because of the rebar in the slab.

Pull force is 1226.5 lbs

I have to take a ferry ride to find a red light, or a green one for that matter. There was a problem with lights in B.C. and the bikers created enough of a fuss that the powers that be changed the settings on the sensors so that now they recognize bikes. Just to be sure I always park right over the sensor.

Who says traffic lights are progress? :backinmyday: Would you belive that there isn't a single traffic light in the county I live in? I like living where such devices are not needed.:cool10:

I want one to play with........but at $900 each.:mo money:Maybe not right now.

Here is the one that I use on my bike that seems to get the job done. http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=BY0X08-N52&cat=168

It is "only" 169 lbs of pull.

I mounted it wit some double sided tape to the center stand.

Between its own pull and the tape, I don't think I could get it off if I wanted to. It almost became a permanent addition to my kitchen decor. It can destroy a CRT monitor from 3 feet away (yes I still use those old things), so be careful where you put it in the house. It is also strong enough to smash a finger if you are not careful.

Just give it a good coat of paint so it does not rust.

Yes I have found a nail stuck to it that was probably destined for my back tire.

The cow magnets are AlNiCo and have no where near the power per $ or power per cubic inch as the N52 Neodymium magnets.

Several years ago when coming home from Trout fishing one night I was cruising along on my VR at 75 mph when I got passed by a Harley rider. He got so far a head that I couldn't see his tail lights. I pulled off the interstate about five miles later and at the top of the ramp sat the Harley at a Red light. He was back too far and didn't trip the thingy that changes the light. I pulled up in front of him at a angle and it tripped. Sure wished I could have seen his face.

Anyway I've had lot of problems at that same light and finally figured it out..... if possible stop at a angle on those pads, works for me most of the time.
