starkruzen Posted August 1, 2010 #1 Posted August 1, 2010 :soapbox:From a thread here I purchased the HID head light kit from a manufacturer in Canada. This was a plug and play easy install. Before I putit all back together I tried and it worked as promised. Then testing again and all was fine. When secured all wiring I tested again and nothing. I hear the igniter but no light. I checked all wiring and all tested fine. Tested again a nothing. No ignitor buzz or light. So I took it all off. Any clues, suggestion other than returning it. Thanks:confused24:
RedRider Posted August 2, 2010 #3 Posted August 2, 2010 Same has happened to me. It worked for a month or so, but sometimes doesn't. It seems to go off when I hit the starter button. Now, it won't work at all. I am trading emails with Scott at the Canadian place. Will let you know what happens. As of this point, the only suggestion is to change the fuse from 10A to 30A. However, the 10A fuse is OK and I am getting 12V passing thru the relay to the ballast/igniter. A fuse is a current limiting device, not a current regulating device. Tried the 30A fuse anyway and it still didn't work. Waiting for a reply. RR
Flyinfool Posted August 2, 2010 #4 Posted August 2, 2010 Does the stock bulb still work on the bike? Did you unplug and replug all connections to be sure they are tight? Are you sure that you have a good ground for the controller? Did you keep the bulb clean and free of fingerprints and/or oil, dirt? That is what I can think of off the top of my head.
Bob Myers Posted August 2, 2010 #5 Posted August 2, 2010 I put one on my Vulcan, first time I rode in the rain it quit. Re-grounded the ground wire, soldered the factory spade on instead of just allowing it to rely on crimp. It now works, rain or shine.
RedRider Posted August 2, 2010 #6 Posted August 2, 2010 Does the stock bulb still work on the bike? Yes. I just plug it back into the original harness. Did you unplug and replug all connections to be sure they are tight? Sure did. Are you sure that you have a good ground for the controller? Ground goes directly back to the battery. Did you keep the bulb clean and free of fingerprints and/or oil, dirt? Yup, just like any headlight That is what I can think of off the top of my head. I'm kind of stumped. RR
BradT Posted August 2, 2010 #7 Posted August 2, 2010 Use a volt meter check to see if you have power after the ballast if not I would suggest that may be your problem. Mine did the same thing, Scot sent me a new one and it has worked ever since. Shuts off once in a while but turn key off and back on and it works fine. Brad
1BigDog Posted August 2, 2010 #8 Posted August 2, 2010 Guess im one of the lucky ones. Mine is working fine......so far...
Squeeze Posted August 2, 2010 #9 Posted August 2, 2010 The Hi/Low Switch in the left Handle Bar is causing a Voltage Drop. That's common Scenario and the Ballast doesn't get enough Voltage to start the Bulb. Check and clean the Switch Contacts, or better just use the stock wiring for operating the Hi/Low Portion of the Bulb and rewire the Balast direct to the Battery.
