Hummingbird Posted July 29, 2010 #1 Posted July 29, 2010 here's a picture of the lower section of the cabinet that nearly cost me my thumb. Linda won't let me finish the top section yet ( I couldn't if I wanted to ) can't stand to use my thumb yet but I'm having a hard time not turning the saw on
pegscraper Posted July 29, 2010 #2 Posted July 29, 2010 That looks very nice. You take care of yourself and heal up. I was using my own table saw today and thinking of you.
eazyduzzit Posted July 29, 2010 #3 Posted July 29, 2010 Nice table. I started woodworking because I needed a certain size end table and couldn't find one, so I built one and it turned out really nice. Most of the wood furniture in my house is custom made by me
BuckShot Posted July 29, 2010 #5 Posted July 29, 2010 Wish I could do that----don't have the patience
Sylvester Posted July 29, 2010 #6 Posted July 29, 2010 I make a lot of saw dust myself, and you need to take care of yourself until you heal.
99silver Posted July 29, 2010 #7 Posted July 29, 2010 Where's the order forms ? catalog ? You do good work my friend !!!!!!!
Hummingbird Posted July 29, 2010 Author #8 Posted July 29, 2010 wait til I get the top section done - sometime next week, it'll be a nice piece of furniture then
Trader Posted July 30, 2010 #10 Posted July 30, 2010 I've been making sawdust for years....nothing useful....just a lot of sawdust! :rotf:
Condor Posted July 30, 2010 #11 Posted July 30, 2010 That's really nice. I just make sawdust and save it for spreading beneath Harleys when they visit....

Hummingbird Posted July 30, 2010 Author #14 Posted July 30, 2010 Nice table. I started woodworking because I needed a certain size end table and couldn't find one, so I built one and it turned out really nice. Most of the wood furniture in my house is custom made by me I used to rebuild antiques/collectables etc but then getting the furniture stripped in a timely/economical manner became impossible. A lot of our furniture is what I call pre-welfare era stuff. It's all oak and ash pieces that I saved from the wood pile. I also have more than several pieces that I built either because it was too expensive to buy or just because I wanted to see if I could replicate it. That was the beginning of a small part time business. don't make much money at it but I do have a lot of fun creating.

Hummingbird Posted July 30, 2010 Author #16 Posted July 30, 2010 What did you use to get the blood stains out of the wood? most of the stains were on the saw, some behind me on the router table, all over my shirt along with what looked like saw dust, you know, little chunks of stuff. luck smiled upon me tho - didn't mess up any wood
mabeline Posted July 31, 2010 #17 Posted July 31, 2010 Very nice cabinet. I made a china cabinet for my parents 35th anniversery. Stuck my finger in router while building it:crying:. So I told them it was made with blood sweat and tears.
spear Posted July 31, 2010 #19 Posted July 31, 2010 And that's why God gave us 8 fingers and 2 thumbs - so we can keep working for a few more years. Nice work - from one sawdust and timber shaving officianado to another.
Marcarl Posted July 31, 2010 #20 Posted July 31, 2010 During the winter last year, I did some sawdust making as well. Not my expertize really. All the sawdust I make seems to end up on my scoot, helps protect it from any would be thieves,, and if someone should want to pay for it, I could get extra, seeing as it's sooo old and dust covered, helps with the authenticity, I guess, hope. You do nice work Dick, just be a bit more careful, thumbs are handy things.
Leadwolf56 Posted August 1, 2010 #21 Posted August 1, 2010 Yes, Dick does some very nice wood working. He made the two jewelry boxes we raffled off at the IR. He also showed us some pictures of some of his other work. All very nice. He could charge more than he does, it's all very high quality work.
