A brief history:

When I purchased my '05 it came wired up and with a GPS mount on the handlebar(even found a sunshade in the trunk). But, the previous owner took the unit. Through some detective work it was determined that the old unit was a Garmin 2620.

I talked to a guy at a GPS booth and he said the 2730 will also fit the mount, and has the same wiring, but is a far superior unit.

So .... I have been scouring Ebay, Craiglist, want ads, google searches etc. for years now. They go for about $125 to $150 used, missing parts, not map updated etc. on Ebay. But I could go out and buy a new Garmin for $150 .... but not wired for it and I'd have to buy a mount.

Getting frustrated trying to bid for the things (why would so many people want 5 year old GPS units for the same price as a new ones is beyond me!)

Before I ask .... what would you do? .... keep in mind I have unique hands .... extra thumbs!!!

So, what would you do.... keep trying or is it worth all this effort for an old unit, should I rip out the wiring and go for a newer unit??? Thanks!

I bought my GPS (Garmin 565t?) from GPS City in Calgary. I also bought the ram mount from them. Very reasonably priced for a Canadian company. They have the hard power cable as well. Give em a look see.

The new cellphones ( I-phone, blackberry, samsung rougue) have GPS capability, and give turn by turn directions, you can bluetooth them to a wireless headset, such as the Cardio scalarider Q2 or G4. :2cents:

I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 750 from GPS City along with Ram mount. The 750 has MP3 player and FM transmitter. It's powered by the RSV's accessory outlet. I tune the radio to matching FM station of 750 and listen to MP3s and when directions are given the music is paused. It works really well and not being waterproof is the only issue.

Thats what I got! sort of 755T not 565t as I last posted. Nice unit, lane assist. The hard thing with a non-motorcycle specific unit is the water proof issue (plastic bag works) and the command buttons and all are small and can be a pain to use. A small stylus from the kids nintendo ds works great for pushing the buttons.

I believe you can get a waterproof "cage" to mount with these units.
