Freebird Posted July 27, 2010 #1 Posted July 27, 2010 There is an article in the First Gen Tech Library on how to dry the desiccant on your first gens. Here is the link: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=9009#post9009 I just added a little tidbit of information to that article though that I received from another member here. He reported: "I came across the mention of refreshing the desiccant for the Class and the high cost for the stuff from Yamaha, and I wanted to mention that you can get it relatively cheap from any place that sells dryer for hearing aids. It is the same stuff and you can get a whole can of it for under $10." He told me that he found it at Walgreen's.
Squidley Posted July 27, 2010 #2 Posted July 27, 2010 Another trick for drying desiccant is to spread it out evenly on a paper towel and put it in the microwave and nuke it. I did this on helicopters in the service as they had canisters to absorb moisture in the tail section to keep the avionics dry. It will turn the Pink desiccant Blue when the moisture is removed, you just pour it back in AFTER it cools down.
Trader Posted July 27, 2010 #3 Posted July 27, 2010 I have a LOT of pouches of desiccant left over from my now closed business. They are called DRY-R by Tana. They were supposed to be used for drying out sports equipment. Just stuff them into your glove (or whatever) and when they got wet, toss them into the dryer. Each package contains 1 large (100 g) or 2 small (50 g) Dry'r pouches. These retailed for $10.00 EACH PACK at Canadian Tire a few years ago we have approx. 300 -50 g and 75- 100 g packs They are all in storage so I'm not sure exactly what the type of deseccant is actually in them...but if anyone wants any, I'll can dig some out to see what is in them, and if it is suitable I can send them to you for the price of shipping. Just pm me .
