Freeman50 Posted July 23, 2010 #1 Posted July 23, 2010 Will a carb from a 1988 venture work right on a 1983 venture:confused24:
MiCarl Posted July 23, 2010 #2 Posted July 23, 2010 Sort of. You can't expect to just bolt one up and have good results. At minimum you'd need to use a whole rack, re-jet and change the pressure sensor and TCI.
jasonm. Posted July 25, 2010 #3 Posted July 25, 2010 (edited) It will work. You may only have to jet down the mains ANd adjust the low speed screws a bit. You need to do it in steps. But I know the mains are smaller for the 1200s. Go to Yamaha web site and find the main jet differences. We all know the pilots are bigger on the '83 but yamaha did that on many bikes their 1st year during the 80's. Then changed it for better overall performance the 2nd year...with no other changes.
