Thanks. Saw the answer (by Goose)in another AIS thread I was reading ( I knew they were here and searched using exhaust popping) and came back to edit, but too late, three replies.

I forget to use google sometimes. Another forum I was active in, you couldn't search the Archive threads through the forum, but Google would still find them.

Thanks,

Rich,

You didn't mention if you had removed the small vacumn lines from the intakes to the AIS and plugged the intake (or slip a small ball bearing into the line and put it back on the intake). But I would suggest that your carbs are running leaner than necessary, so you might unscrew the air mixture screws about 1/4th of a turn each to richen up the low end circuit which should help some. If this doesn't work, you might think about shimming out your slide needles a bit. Or just deal with the popping?

My bike had just about every problem posted here on the forum.I've been reading all of the tech threads and have fixed several problems already, thanks to all the great info here.I had a bad popping issue when I first got the bike, biggest problem was a cracked "Y" pipe.I picked up a new exhaust system from pinwall for $200.00.changed out the bad pipe and the poping was not as bad but still there.Did a carb sync, got a little better.I suspect the after market mufflers are the cause of whats left of the popping.I also pluged the AIS this just made it the worse, took the plugs out.I to believe if it ain't broke don't fix it.It was designed that way for a reason.I'm going to put the stock mufflers on that I picked up at pinwalls and see what that does.Theres a lot of great info here, don't sweat the small stuff it's all in fun.

It is correct that there is a 4 character minimum for search terms. I do have the option though of adding "exceptions". For example, I could add AIS to the exceptions list and it would allow it. The problem is, if I did that, it would return so many irrelevant threads that it would still be pretty much useless. The Google search option after selecting "venturerider.org" works the best and does not have the 4 character minimum.

Guys (and Gals), if you are in a thread, your clicking on the wrong Search button to find threads about AIS (yes 3 characters can be used, no problem).

Click on the Search button up in the bar between New Posts and Quick Links. In this Search box, is an option to do Google search. Be sure to change the selection from Web to the VentureRider Link.

I use this option all the time unless I am looking for specific person's threads or posts.

Unzip the file, you will see the drop down search box with AIS and this site selected.

I had a pop on decel. Just left side from what i can tell. Mine was a single distinct pop when shutting down the throttle.Didn't want to have it happening during the group ride to Indy so set out to investigate.

Carbs had been off before with prior owner because the float bowls were on backwards (couldn't get to the drains on two of them). So that's where I started. Goose mentioned the exhaust pop being caused by unburned hydrocarbons (rich) and also got me to thinking carbs.

With carbs off, I inspected everything, checked the float valves and the seats including the orings that seal the brass float seat. There was a little build up corrosion around the oring area on the carb body. Cleaned all that up and replaced the o-rings. Then set the floats per goose's tech article. I found the floats were adjusted low (richer or higher fuel level) than compared to the spec similar to what Goose had found.I set them all to mid spec .34" IIRC. I did not check to see where this puts the static fuel level relative to the separate spec for that.

None of the jets were plugged but the brass was dark colored. No varnish or algae at all in the carbs. CLeaned the jets for grins and blew through all the passages with carb cleaner then air. I did not split the carbs off the rack.

Put It all back together and No more pop/afterfire on decel. Bike feels crisper.Haven't even checked the sync yet. Can't tell if mileage has changed, since everything since I put it together was riding in the mountains and backroads using mostly 3 and 4. Even at that, mileage was 38-40 just under my Florida Flat road mileage of 40-42 before the carb service. That's uncorrected mileage based on bikes odometer.

I should note that I still have exhaust leaks at the crimp on both Y pipes and the AIS is still hooked up. Exhaust is stock. Not one pop in 1300 miles from Atlanta to Indy and back.
