Cooling vests

After research, debating, researching and more debating, I finally bought cooling vests for the wife and I.

A little pricey...but...

 

We put the vests on under our riding gear and went for a 4 hour ride during the heat of the day in Florida. Gotta say...I am impressed! Even when stopped at stoplights we stayed pretty cool.

 

The vests stayed "charged" for the entire ride. We put the PCM (Phase Change Material) in a cooler put in some water, put in some ice, and in about 20 minutes they were frozen solid....ready for another ride!

 

Now...we are ready for our roadtrip to Charlotte & the Smokey Mountains!

We just bought some Mira Cool vests and have yet to give them a try. I have heard good things about them as well as the ones you purchased

in 2008 Rick and I rode our RSV's to Star Days in AR. On our way through Misery (MO) we got hot, I mean REAL hot - and then tired and fatigued. Now we are going along at 70 MPH PLUS or minus, and you really do not realize how much moisture your body loses. We stopped frequently to rest, rehydrate, and yes we had drinks on our bikes, but those would be hot and warm within minutes on the road....

 

Now we knew it was going to be hot so we both bought new Cooling Vests, and finally around 3PM in the blazing heat we thought - HEY why not put on those new threads we got sitting in our trunks and see what they can do!! ....

 

WELL I GOTTA TELL YA - what a difference! Amazing - seriously. I went from feeling light headed, drowsy and listless to like someone shot me up with speed and turned the air conditioner on high! If you have to ride in any heat, especially with high humidity - get one of these vests - worth every single damn dime!

Don't they work by evaporation? How will moisture evaporate in high humidity? Mabey I need to do some more research!!

:backinmyday:The body cools itself by allowing your sweat - moisture - evaporate from your body taking the heat with it. The Vest allows your body to keep it's own moisture and instead the vest moisture evaps - creating a barrier if you will and allowing little or lots of moisture to move away from your body thus providing you a feeling of ahhhhhhhh coolness.

 

Even in high humidity, when you are moving along creating air flow - moisture is being evaporated. Standing still you may feel a tad warm - I know we did not. Some wear the vest next to the skin and wear a shirt over it. We wore the vest on the outside of our shirts.

 

Something along those scientific lines. HTH

Are the Mira Cool vests made with water crystals like most of the bandannas are?

Those water crystals stay hydrated for days.

As I was researching a cooling vest...the thinkg I kept hearing about the vests that require you to get them WET to activate the evaporative cooling effect was that after one or two uses, they start to STINK (mildewy type of smell).

 

The CoolVest works by drawing body heat away from the body using RPCM (renewable phase change material). The key with this product is that it maintains a constant 59 degrees....independent of the humidity. I wear an UnderArmour shirt under the Coolvest, and I wear the vest under my MotoPort Mesh kevlar riding gear.

At the end of the day, I'm try to keep my body's core COOL, and not smell like a dirty sweat sock!

 

If you ride in the heat of the day...YOU NEED SOME TYPE OF COOLING vest!!!!

 

And no....I don't get a kick-back on their product...but if you ARE in the Rockledge, FL area, I'll let you try mine so you can get a real feel for how the vest works!

Do you wear this at work too? Don,t be so modest and tell us what are the temperatures where you work? That makes you "Qualified"

I already posted that the temps at work can be 160-170 degrees. The vest works very well, and no....it doesn't stink.

 

It uses cooling crystals that stay hydrated for several days.

3 feet, Dam mild winter then. I can dress for the cold but not much you can do with the heat. Those temps you start sweating climbing out of the pool.

Well;

I did some research & became sold on a

The hard thing about it was the price for an XL. So I hunted & hunted till I found this & bought it...

But I'm really sold on the PCM material...it works VERY WELL!...
