I have a 08 venture & would like to put a reciver type hitch on it. do all hitches for a venture lust bolt on with the 4 boults in the back or is there some other bracing that goes up to the main frame?

If all I need is the frame across the back I cam make that! for now I would just like a rack on the back for more storage on long trips. trailer later?:confused07:

That's how my VentureDad hitch works, and haven't had any issues with it. Towed my LOADED Time Out camper with no problems.

I have an 08 RSTD and my hitch attaches just with the bolts on the back. I just towed a smallish trailer 8200 miles and the hitch worked just fine. However, my rear end did go bad somewhere around the 6000 mile mark. I actually rode it with a screaming rear end for the final 2000 miles until I could get the scooter back home and take it to my dealer. Before I left on the trip I had the rear end fluid changed and switched to the Mobil 1 synthetic instead of the original Yamaha rear end fluid. Don't think that the fluid change contributed to the problem developing but it is disappointing to have something as major as a rear end fail. The service manager and the mechanics all say that they've never seen a rear end fail on a Venture or a RSTD. I wonder if anyone else has had any rear end problems or even if they have towed a trailer for more than 8000 miles over the course of a couple of years. The trailer is one of the smaller models, all fiberglass, 12 inch wheels, and doesn't weigh over 150 lbs. I may have had 100-125 lbs. of clothing, etc., new tires, and plenty of grease in the bearings. Is the RSTD or the Venture just not up to the task of towing a relatively small load? Your guess is as good as mine.

HitchDoc makes one that installs differently. I has too large bars that connect to the rear fender struts.

I have one of these and am having a little trouble fitting it to the bike. Is there anyone here that uses this hitch? I have a couple of questions.

I used to have one on my '99 but replaced it with a Bushtec hitch. I probably don't remember everything about it but if you have a specific question, I'll give it a shot.

They haven't? I have heard of several failing, though not common. Denden who is a member here had his '01 rearend changed at Star Days a few years back if I'm not mistaken. I know other members have talked about the howling they have heard from the rearend too. I have pulled trailers on my Ventures, both 1st and 2nd gen for better than 30K miles. In '06 I did a 10K month long trip pulling a trailer behind my '99. Your rearend is a fluke and I wouldn't be super concerned with it, have them swap it out and continue pulling your trailer.

Not to get on a rant, but I have noticed in the later model year RSV's that it seems like more items are failing. I have to think that Yamaha has been using cheaper vendors to make their parts. I have heard of plenty of fuel pumps failing, prematurely it seems like in the later model years. I rarely hear of them failing in the early RSV's :confused24:

Thank you for all the input on a hitch! I think I will just build one for $10. bucks & some time.

Keep the Shiny side up & "RIDE"!:Venture:

My final drive,on my 07, was making a whining noise and was replaced by dealer,it had only 2200 miles on it.
