Hey this is Utadventure's son,

I am now the proud owner of an 83 Venture Royal :big-grin-emoticon:.

I've been riding a Honda Silverwing for the last 2 years and have love every min of it. But alas I pulled a stupid and ended up seizing the engine on it. It was a sad moment cause it's a great little bike and you don't see to many of them out on the road.

So after greiving for my loss I started looking for a new bike. After looking around for a week or so my dad found a blonde venture only about an hour away from us that the owner was willing to sell for 1k.

The problems? A dead battery, minor damage to the plastic (nothing worse than the usual wear and tear), needs a new back tire, and the electronics were pulled out and he didn't know if they worked or not.

He jump started me to get me home and the panel showed the bike putting out a solid 13~14V the entire way home. The trip charged the battery and the battery is holding the charge. The plastic I know how to fix and I'll probably repaint the bike after I'm done anyway (even though the paint still looks good enough for now). I've ordered a rear tire and after one night of fiddling with the electronics everything works.

I had to curse the previous owner for the backwards and slapstick way he wired some things. (most of the night was spent just undoing previous "fixes" and redoing them so that they were more discrete and less likely to leave me stranded on the side of the road doing these same fixes.) But all and all, great deal for a 1000 bucks.

As soon as I get the tire in I'll be riding it. :Venture:

Great to hear what you are doing for such a classic bike.

#1 priority when the rear tire is changed it to remove the rear end and clean and grease the driveshaft on both ends and the lugs on the inside of the hub assembly. A good moly based grease will work fine and everytime the rear wheel is removed, do it again. Some have a problem putting the driveshaft back into the u-joint, but it is real easy. Just take Visegrips and clamp over the lip of the cup end of the driveshaft and slide it up into the tube. The u-joint will be hanging down so catch the lip of the u-joint with the driveshaft and then raise it to about level, rotate it slightly and it should slide right in. If it takes you more than 30 seconds, you ain't doing it right. But, it does get easier everytime you do it. Then when you get the driveshaft seated into the u-joint, you can slide the rearend cup back on the splines of the shaft and install the rearend.

Sam,

Welcome to the fold, lots of things to check, but your in the right spot. Enjoy the site and do yourself a favor and perform a complete tune up (Plugs Wires Caps & Air Filter) on the bike before you even try to start troubleshooting. We'll be here and are looking forward to some pics :thumbsup2:

I have had two '83 Silverwings...great little bike. The first one we bought in Germany and rode it all over Europe. I know you will grow to like the Venture as much! :BLUE:
