TopV Posted July 12, 2010 #1 Posted July 12, 2010 Ok folks Looking to buy a jack for my venture. Visited hobour freight ans look at diffrent jacks, was wondering if anyone has tried them and how the work with this bike. Any input would be helpful. Thanks Joe
waterbug Posted July 12, 2010 #2 Posted July 12, 2010 I dont know if you are a member of costco or not but they have a alumn bike jack on line you can get and the price is just under 200. I think when I get some extra cash Im gona get me one.
KiteSquid Posted July 12, 2010 #3 Posted July 12, 2010 ANY motorcycle jack works with this bike but the Harbor Freight jack is about the lowest cost option. it is currenlty on sale for UD$80 and they will normally take 20% off of that price if you use a coupon. This is the jack I have. CarbonOne makes a jack adapter that make lifing these bikes a DREAM!!!! He usually has them listed in the calassifed section. Click HERE to go to the ad. It is on my Christmass list.....
skydoc_17 Posted July 12, 2010 #4 Posted July 12, 2010 Because of my "Little Shop By The Creek", I have Lifted close to 900 motorcycles of different types, and 500 were First and Second Gen. Ventures, RSV's and RSTD's. NONE of the jacks available will lift a Second Gen. RSV or RSTD (or RSTC for that matter) without some sort of adapter, (or at least a couple of specially placed 2x4's) I use the Craftsman Professional currently because it moves nicely in close quarters, is activated just like my car jack, and is stable with a large motorcycle on it. I believe that harbor freight has one close to the Craftsman, and it is $25.00 less. I use mine way too much to sweat a few bucks on a "china made" jack. But if I only used it a few times a year, I could understand why a few dollars would make a difference. Earl
pick Posted July 12, 2010 #5 Posted July 12, 2010 I have both a Sears (Craftsman) and a Pitbull. They both work great witht the carbonone life adaptor. The pitbull is a tad bit more secure and lifts about 3 inches higher, but I didn't find anything the craftsman couldn't do.
buddy Posted July 12, 2010 #6 Posted July 12, 2010 I have the Harbor Freight jack and it works fine with my jack adapter that I built for the RSV & RSTD used it to replace my front tire and did some cleaning on the bike while in the air sure did wonders for my knee's too no more crawling around on the floor doing chrome shine. Like stated you will need a adapter for the Venture or RSTD "NO" cycle jack will work until you have a adapter for it...... Buddy
SC89Venture Posted July 12, 2010 #7 Posted July 12, 2010 Is the carbon adapter for 2nd gen only or will it work on 1st gen also?
bongobobny Posted July 12, 2010 #8 Posted July 12, 2010 Yes, the Carbon1 is speciffically for the 2nd gen. You don't need an adapter for 1st gens. I have had no problems ever lifting on the 1st gen using my Craftsman jack.
SC89Venture Posted July 12, 2010 #9 Posted July 12, 2010 (edited) Thank you sir. I almost brought the red craftsman jack but it was the lighter capacity, going to look at the Harbor Freight one at the local store. Here is a link for the 20% off coupon. http://dealspl.us/imageview.php?f=108017 Edited July 12, 2010 by SC89Venture
TopV Posted July 13, 2010 Author #10 Posted July 13, 2010 I tank you all for your input on the jack, the only thing i dont understand is why is an adaptor required? slightly confused on that one.
straycatt Posted July 13, 2010 #11 Posted July 13, 2010 I tank you all for your input on the jack, the only thing i dont understand is why is an adaptor required? slightly confused on that one. Because various bit and pieces of the engine hang down below the frame rails.
KiteSquid Posted July 13, 2010 #12 Posted July 13, 2010 I have ben useing some leftover oak floring to do the job, but the adapater looks like a much better option.
jemorrisonjr Posted July 13, 2010 #13 Posted July 13, 2010 I bought the Harbor Freight Jack and the Carbon one adapter... Best set up for the Price... The carbon one adapter is worth twice the price (shhhh dont tell him)...
uechi kid Posted July 13, 2010 #14 Posted July 13, 2010 No matter which motorcycle jack you buy, do your self a favor and buy the Carbon One adapter. It's well worth the money.
