kingbird Posted July 12, 2010 Author #26 Posted July 12, 2010 Just so you know what it is like to receive a cell phone call on the Zumo. You will hear a ring on your headset and the Zumo screen will show an incoming call. Touch the screen to accept or decline the call. Then you just talk on your headset. It will automatically hang up for you so your not really doing anything that will take your eyes off the road other than the initial glance at the screen. Doesn't sound much different from chatting with someone on the back over the intercom. Thanks!
Guest tx2sturgis Posted July 12, 2010 #27 Posted July 12, 2010 (edited) Kingbird: I didnt say that YOU are stupid...I said the decision to save a few dollars and risk safety is a stupid decision. We all make dumb decisions every now and then, but it doesnt mean that we ARE stupid. I apologize since you took that reference personally. I did say that we want you to be around a while...it was meant as stern but friendly advice, not preaching. Posting on a public forum on the internet for advise causes that to happen sometimes. But: I do NOT use the CB while riding. Never have. I dont own a headset or microphone to even make it work. I dont use the intercom, since I dont even own a headset to make it work, much less 2 of them. Occasionally a passenger will chat with me while riding in traffic and I hate that. Its too distracting. I'm serious about keeping focused on the task of staying alive in traffic. One second of distraction while in traffic can get a motorcyclist killed. I have mentioned on the forum now and then that i believe rider to passenger intercom has little value, but that is such an unpopular opinion I have learned to not rock the boat. I realize that many riding couples like to chat while riding...they have to share every little thought as they ride. I dont see it. thats what the stereo is for. And I turn it DOWN or OFF when I'm in traffic...I want to hear the noises of cars around me. I DO enjoy listening to the stereo on the bike. I did say that I hope you make the choice to avoid calls for your own safety. I wasn't handing down rules for you to follow. And I plan to stay on this side of the water...and will keep posting advise on here. If it saves one rider, I'm happy. Even IF that rider chooses to be upset. I can see where this is going, and the mods dont like when we argue so I wont be replying on-thread. PM me if you wish. Edited July 12, 2010 by tx2sturgis
kingbird Posted July 12, 2010 Author #28 Posted July 12, 2010 I didnt say that YOU are stupid...I said the decision to save a few dollars and risk safety is a stupid decision. We all make dumb decisions every now and then, but it doesnt mean that we ARE stupid. I apologize since you took that reference personally. ...it was meant as stern but friendly advice, not preaching. I appreciate your attempt to mend fences and will let this drop also. But ... I also would like to hand you some stern and friendly advice: The line between being called "stupid" and being told that, in your opinion, they are "making a stupid decision" is a mighty fine line. Either way it adds up to being called stupid by almost anyone's measure. But putting that aside, the word "stupid" is the result of a judgement that you have made. When you choose to use judgemental words like "stupid", you are clearly implying you are confident in your superior understanding of the subject matter. Otherwise how could you be qualified to make that judgment? I would suggest that unless you have a clear understanding of the entirety of a person's circumstances (i.e. age, riding history and skills, conditions including traffic, weather, etc. in which they normally ride, etc., etc.) you have no basis upon which to judge anything. I do NOT use the CB while riding. Never have. I dont own a headset or microphone to even make it work. I dont use the intercom, since I dont even own a headset to make it work, much less 2 of them. I was very pleased to read this. It indicates integrity on your part. ...and will keep posting advise on here. If it saves one rider, I'm happy. Even IF that rider chooses to be upset. Ever hear that "You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar"? Throwing out agressive and judgemental slams under the guise of "giving friendly advice" usually does far more harm than good. I would suspect that you are actually getting more reaction like mine than your recipients take the time to post. It's just that I'm too old and cranky to put up with it. I can see where this is going, and the mods dont like when we argue so I wont be replying on-thread. PM me if you wish. I wish you well, Bud. Ride safe. +end of discussion+
Cougar Posted July 12, 2010 #29 Posted July 12, 2010 I use all 3 options through my head set... talking back and forth with wife while ridng together,,,,,answering a phone call via blue tooth.. and I also use the CB they all seem to be going though the same ears.. seems safe enough. my hands are still on the bars.
kingbird Posted July 12, 2010 Author #30 Posted July 12, 2010 Thanks Cougar. That's kinda what I was wanting to know when I first posted this thread. I figure most guys here are smart enough to know when and how to exercise common sense and good judgement. Heck, we can't be completely dumb ... look what we're riding! Happy trails! Kingbird
