Good luck with that. You'll be a statistic soon. You should take a look at a few issues Network World. Macs are the new frontier.

Could be. But if it happens, I'll do a full restore after erasing the hard drive and THEN buy something to keep it safe. I wont lose much because I backup so often. I guess its possible that a virus could invade my archives on TimeMachine...hmmm.

Actually, I'm probably under the radar for most hackers.

Squid, I was using AVG free and picked up a really nasty virus that I had to pay to have removed. After removal, I asked what the best protection is and to my surprise, they said Norton. Now I have always hated Norton, but the guys said that Norton 2010 was a revamped and really good product. I decided to go ahead and try it and I have to admit that I really do like it. It does not bog the unit down like the old one used to.

Norton's crap along with Mcaffe I wouldn't trust it until its been around for a good while. Always had good luck with Bitdefender.

I ended up using the maleware" program and ran it in safe mode 3 times . I then reinstalled the AVG on both computers and ran 2 virus scans. That got the pop ups gone, but then as a parting gift, the virus made it so my internet explorer wouldn't connect me to the web :buttkick: So I ended up going with Mozilla Firefox (it was installed on the PC already) and got to the internet on the big computer.

Same thing happened to me on a few months back on the home computer. Still running firefox on it. But with these options I may try to get IE back, just for fun.

We use Avg as well and it works pretty good, but everyonce in a while I run Adaware and Spybot just for a piece of mind. They both always seem to delete something.

Good luck

I run a program called pest patrol. The first time I ran it it dug up and trashed 256 trojans, and malware. Since then I have never had one turn up. It is available as a free down load. I also run my computer with user rights using the admin only when needed and using a limited user the rest of the time. This way if you accidently down load something that wants to install itself it can't because of lack of rights.

Brad,

Did my suggestion on how to get IE to connect (in my previous post) not work for IE?

Up at the top click tools, internet options, connections tab, LAN settings button (at the bottom), then the automatically detect settings button at the top.

Honestly though, I think Firefox is better and more secure than is IE so you're probably better off using that.

Try Google Chrome for a browser , than download the IE app from CNET it is not IE it just makes all the IE sites think your using IE , when using Chrome you can sync. your Bookmarks and never lose them plus when you sign on any computer you have your bookmarks , chrome like gmail uses clouds so they do not take up a lot of room on your p/c .

With all these virus/firewalls mentioined I'm surprised that nobody runs TREND. About 15 years ago while runing unprotected I picked up a virus that locked me off the machine. Out of shear luck I back doored the block by doing a HD search, and double clicking on the last file downloaded.... it happened to be a URL that got me back on the web. Once on there was no way I was going to get off. I found Trend's free housecall and ran it. Found not only the one virus, but another 'timebomb' to go off at a later date. Trend found them and gave instructions on how to get rid of them. Nowdays they just squash them. They let me download a 30 day trial, which I did, and then bought the program for about 30 bucks, and they maintained it for 7-8 years free. It was a heck of a deal. Now I'm paying $40 bucks a year for the full Monty, and worth every penny. I guess what it comes down to is you get what you pay for. Don't expect the latest and greatest in a free-be......
