eBay "phishing" fraud scam *CAUTION*

This came across my desk from a co-worker who got it from the Director of Information Services at ****** (not at liberty to disclose) ...

 

Just a "heads up"...and I don't have the attachment(s) referred to...

 

 

Ebay fraud (Phishing Scam) - please refer to the attached email seen below ..........

 

I am passing along this attempted email fraud (phishing expedition) onto "All Subscribers" such that all are made aware of the types of email frauds that one may receive. This particular one is an an attempt being made to fool one into divulging their personal information.

 

In the following attachment letter 'invoice' seen below, it indicates to the receiver that they have purchased an item from eBay. By clicking on the link - it brings you to a 'look alike' eBay page where it requests that you enter your eBay Username and Password.

 

Once you do this, the scammers, store this information and now have access to your eBay account where they can buy and sell under your name, leaving you to clean up the mess. In addition they most lilley will harvest any monies in your PayPal account if they can get that as well.

 

It is interesting to note that if you click on the Link in the attachment below 'Guess Red Signs Handbag Purse & ........ it links

You will notice that address above denotes www.traveldelhi.com It is a web site located in India - IT DOES NOT SAY 'eBay'. When you click on a link of anything you may feel is suspicious - it is advisable "LOOK" to see what site it is really referencing. In this case it is not www.ebay.com

So please be cautious when receiving any such emails - when in doubt- do not to click on the link - but simply bring up your Browser and enter the address such as www.ebay.com and check things out that way.

I've gotten a few of these and send them right to Ebay or Paypal, whoever the email says it was from..

 

Of course then I reply to the email with a few kind words.

I get them all the time. Best thing to remember, if it is to your personal email, regard it suspuciously. If it is legitimate, it will be in your "Messages" in your "My Ebay", if it is not there, it is more than likely a "phish". You can always forward it to spoof@ebay.com and they will reply to you and let you know if it is indeed a fake. Those guys can be very good at duplicating an ebay page - so be careful!

I get those all the time. I just forward them to SPOOF, mark the sender address as spam, and delete the mail. I don't really know what good it does to forward them to spoof as I get the same response back from them all the time.

I dont list anything on eaby nor do I buy anything on ebay..

I dont even have an account set up with Ebay and never will..

Sorry .......but that is how I feel about Ebay...to many scams on that site to take a chance..

Ild rather spend a little more than an item is worth than to have all my finances and future screwed up because of some low life scamming creep.

Be suspicious about anything you receive from Ebay. The best way to tell if it's spam or phishing is that your real name is not in the header, and the email refers to your ebay 'handle'. And....even when your name is used still be suspicious.... I used to get a lot of those phishing emails, but haven't in a while now. I used to send them all to spoof@ebay.com . Maybe it worked??? You have to keep your head on a swivel with anything internet related, not just Ebay, as it's worldwide with countries that have different laws, and a could care less attitude. We can control what happens here in the US, but there's not a damn thing we can do about offshore scammers.
