Panjandrum Posted July 3, 2010 #1 Posted July 3, 2010 With only 4,000 Km on my Venture, I had battery issues which caused me to require bump starting if there was a hill or a couple of willing BC Ferry workers to push the beast, or a jump start, which requires taking off the driver seat. What a pain THAT is! Has anyone come up with an alternative to the awkward nuts that secure the seat? My dealer replaced the battery, so I may not need to remove the seat for a while, but it would be handy to have an alternative for any future needs. Thanks for any help.
Squidley Posted July 3, 2010 #2 Posted July 3, 2010 Chris, Many of us on the G2 dont even bother having the nuts on the seat. It's not coming off when you have a 300 lb guy (like myself) sitting on it. Also too I believe that Rick Butler here on the board has made thumb nuts for them for easier removal.
Sylvester Posted July 3, 2010 #3 Posted July 3, 2010 I believe the thumb nuts are a good product, but when the bike is hot I think the removal would be painful. I have a set of open/box ratchet that are stubby. I keep a 10mm in my trunk and they work quickly and keep you fingers off the engine top.
KeithR Posted July 3, 2010 #4 Posted July 3, 2010 Hey Chris Check out my solution on this link.....99 ea at Cdn Tire or drop by and I'll give ya a set! Keith www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=27341&highlight=lost+seat+hold
LilBeaver Posted July 3, 2010 #5 Posted July 3, 2010 10mm regular depth socket and a 1/4" drive ratchet works perfectly for me on both sides. Can R&I both nuts without burning my hands. While many suggest leaving the nuts off, I have found that if I don't have the nuts on I have two undesired effects. 1) My seat wobbles when I sit on it while riding - which I do not like 2) If the wind blows just right while my bike is parked, I end up playing the 'find my seat game' and with as much fun as THAT is, I don't want to have to do that again
hig4s Posted July 3, 2010 #6 Posted July 3, 2010 I use long nylon nuts, and just finger tighten them, and keep a few extra in my saddlebags.
eusa1 Posted July 3, 2010 #7 Posted July 3, 2010 i installed the battery tender hook up to my battery, then made a short jumper cable that plugs into the flat 2 connection. i carry it in the bottom of the saddlebag in the event that anyone needs a jump, or if i need a jump. the plug hangs out at the rt rear cyclinder head under the edge of the seat... no need to remove the seat.:whistling:mike
Bummer Posted July 3, 2010 #8 Posted July 3, 2010 If you're patient sooner or later they'll fall off on their own. I've lost three so far, and I thought I'd tightened them adequately.
