MasterGuns Posted July 1, 2010 #1 Posted July 1, 2010 Has anyone added a cd changer to their 1st Gen WITHOUT removing any of the stock audio stuff? I was thinking about mounting a cd changer in the trunk only if there was some way of wiring the audio into the present system without removing anything and installing it so that if I wanted, I could stilll use any of the original audio. I would just hate to ruin the OEM set-up. Has anyone performed this already? If you have, I'd love to hear from ya.
Sylvester Posted July 1, 2010 #2 Posted July 1, 2010 Why go to the trouble? A MP3 player is much cheaper and takes up no trunk space.
MasterGuns Posted July 1, 2010 Author #3 Posted July 1, 2010 Why go to the trouble? A MP3 player is much cheaper and takes up no trunk space. Sounds good to me. So, how would one hookup a MP3 player without removing any of the stock components. I have one of those cassette convertors; you know the cassette-like looking device that inserts into the cassette player and the other end plugs into the MP3. But I don't like that set up because then you have the wire hanging there and atleast on a 1st Gen, you have to figure out where to put the actual player. To me this setup is not a clean looking arrangement and appears shoddy. Shoot, I may as well just purchase the special XM antenna for my Zumo 550 and mount it just like LoneStarMedic did. Then, I'd have XM satellite received through the GPS unit. Just considering all my options at this point. Thanks for the reply.
elmicko Posted July 1, 2010 #4 Posted July 1, 2010 On mine the cassette player crapped out so I took it out and made a plate to go in it's place. Mounted a cigarette lighter outlet on the plate and bought a car MP3 player from Amazon for about $15. The MP3 player plugs directly into the cigarette lighter outlet and transmits an FM signal to the radio. It sounds very good and looks nice too because I was able to stick the cassette player cover over it to hide it and protect from rain.
