I am considering installing a windshield vent and was wondering about the Pros and Cons.:yikes::yikes::yikes:

Is there an article on just how to install the vents and are there different types?

Your help and knowledge is appreciated! :missingtooth:

I've had a clearview shield with vent for 4 years and wouldn't go back to a shield without one. I've never had a problem with bugs coming through the vent. It's rare for a bug to come through and when it does it lands on my chest. I rode my bike through alligator alley and the bugs where terrible but I didn't have a problem with them coming through the vent although you couldn' hardly see through my windshield. I can't tell you anything about installing a vent as my clearview came with the vent installed.

Is there a tech article out there on how to install the vent? Where?

I am pretty convinced that the vent is a good idea, now I need the HOW to INSTALL part of the equation.

ANYBODY ???????? :yikes::yikes::yikes:

Why don't ya just stretch yer neck and keep yer noggin above the windshield? Doing that could make ya look like you are one of them uppity-nosed know-it-alls and temper yer obvious redneck characteristics.....:scratchchin:

Boomer.....who jest knows he's gonna catch hell for this one.....

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CLUE ??????

Besides I ain't an uppity Redneck......just a redneck. My neck is as red as a tree rippened apple and just cause Mrs Bubber says I am a know it all, don't make it so!

I has been called a lot of things but never uppity. Some things I have been called I just can't print here where one of those young pygmies might see it and repeat it. :crying::crying:

Bubber who says if its pygmies you want..... pygmies you shall get !!!

I installed a Wing windshield vent on my '83 Venture windshield.

I came across a template somewhere for the cut, I think - can't remember for sure, as it was last year - maybe it came with the vent kit (that would be why I had to modify the hole maybe). Anyways, it took a while of fitting/trimming the hole to the vent after re-installing the windshield, and the the vent front & back parts wouldn't close together onto the windshield correctly because the Venture windshield curve was tighter than the wing windshield curve. I ended up using a stainless steel washer or two (don't remember how many) with a longer stainless steel screw so the parts wouldn't close together so much, and then it worked (either the top or bottom of the vent stays together via a groove & edge on the respective front & rear vent parts). There was a gap between the bottom of the vent & the windshield, so I masked the windshield & vent, and filled it with clear silicone to seal it - it was pretty slick after it cured.

I hope my quick explanation is clear (as mud?) Like any custom job, it was a little bit of a project, but it turned out real nice (I took my time with it). email me & I can email you pictures of the vent in the windshield if you like.

Squidley, er, I mean Cupcake has written posts about installing the round vents.

The vent used by Clearview is a Honda vent. They sell it for $59, but that's with a windshield. I don't really know how they price it without the shield. If you look it up as parts online it'll add up to from $45 to $57, depending on where you're looking.

I've never cut the hole for it. I have, however, replaced a broken one. The curve on the vent is not the same as the curve on the windshield, so it takes some patient massaging to get it in. Aside from the curve, you have to put the grille part on from the front and then put the body of the vent into a notch on the grille, from the back. Two bolts with washers, grommets, and nuts hold it together.

I had quite a time trying to get it all together with the shield on the bike. I finally took it off and held the shield under my left arm with one side against my right thigh an the other under my left armpit. I then shoved the grille in place with my left hand and put the visor into the slot with the right hand. I kind of straightened out the shield a little as I bent the grille. It also took a little judiciously applied french.

When you click on the link look up top where it says technical library and click there a pop up will come down then click on 2nd generation. You don't have to be a member to view the tech library. I installed one on mine without a template. Traced the cover on a piece of cardboard and reduced it to match the insert. Had to sand or dremel to fit. Purchased mine at a honda shop, just ask for a goldwing windshield vent.

I hate to say it but I been through the 2nd Gen ones and I can't find it.

I must be having a continuous senior moment or some thing.

Look under body and chassis and scroll down to adding windsheild air vents.

Here's where I bought my vent for a 1st Gen.:

http://www.saber-cycle.com/store/product197.html

They say it's for a Goldwing 1500, but I will make it fit.

I haven't installed it yet. It was $29.00, plus just under $4.00 shipping.

The directions for installation are attached. I may need to adjust the location based on the 1st Gen. windshield.

Good luck.

FUNNY, I just installed that very same vent from the sample place for my Clearview medium shield. Not sure about the factory shield thickness but the clearview is too thick for the two halves to clip together, one half on each side of the shield. I had to put a drum sander on my dremel and thin out parts of the half that slips into the other half. (hard to explain)...but if you have a CLearview be prepared for customization....
