tpalshadow Posted June 29, 2010 #1 Posted June 29, 2010 (edited) OK, just curious here, I changed the coolant a few weeks ago and have had a slight drip out of the plug under what I am assuming is the water pump (what I used to drain the coolant). I went into the local shop and ordered the gasket for it (part 13 on the attached diagram). This is a metal part with a lip on one side. Is that the right part and if so, which was does the lip go. I was expecting a rubber gasket or something to hold the fluid in! http://images.powersportsnetwork.com/fiche/images/YAMAHA/1989/Motorcycles/327_waterpump.gif Edited June 29, 2010 by tpalshadow volcab issues
GeorgeS Posted June 29, 2010 #2 Posted June 29, 2010 Is it leaking ?? the way you installed it . If not, I would just go for a ride !!! I hear its summer----
dingy Posted June 29, 2010 #3 Posted June 29, 2010 I just pulled the drain bolt out of a spare water pump housing and the lip on the washer faced towards the bolt head. Gary
tpalshadow Posted June 29, 2010 Author #4 Posted June 29, 2010 OK, thanks. Yes it is leaking (real slow drip), otherwise I would leave it alone.
MasterGuns Posted June 30, 2010 #5 Posted June 30, 2010 Mine was leaking a drop or two every so often after reinstalling it. I just removed the crush washer and smoothed it up on both sides using 400 grit, applied a small amount of gasket sealer, and reinstalled it. No more leak even when really hot. I did however order a new washer and will use it if it ever starts leaking again.
MiCarl Posted June 30, 2010 #6 Posted June 30, 2010 You should be able to pick up something similar at the corner auto parts store. The one by me has them in copper, aluminum and nylon.
