don't even want to take sides on this one but joe, they have you by the gonads. this is why i do most all my own work. even though your a good buddy heres the facts. i had a small business and overhead broke me. whether you know it or not alot of these folks are hanging on to their business by a thread. i don't know how some of them stay alive. every one wants a freebee. it's hard to compete with folks that are so big they can give stuff away. i actually had people come in and show me discount catalogs and demand i beat the price. i just could'nt cuz i could'nt buy 300 on a special price from the manufacturer. taxes are taxes. the dealer has no say so over that. owning your own business is the pits. take it from one who knows. everyone is trying to get your money.:depressed:

Hey Bill, you probably don't know that I also owned a small business (Lawn and Garden Equipment) back in the eighties and was basically driven out of business by the local Wal Mart and KMart when they started selling mowers and tractors. Yep, I know all about overhead, unreasonable price demands, etc. And, as I said in my very first post, I don't mind a business making a profit. I really don't. I understand and sympathize with businesses, especially the small business owner. However, there is a difference between profit and gouging. Sometimes that difference is hard to define, but I know it when I feel it.

What really made this feel like gouging, I guess, is that they weren't even friendly. Their communication to me was more like grunts and growls. Didn't seem all that happy to have me in their shop.....but that is probably due to the fact that I told them up front that I was traveling (therefore they probably assumed that I wouldn't be a potential future purchaser of a high-dollar item). The service manager also seemed to be rather displeased that I brought the wheel in already removed from the bike. I don't know....just not a pleasant experience.

Oh well, time to move on.

I was figuring that I was going to have to ride over to your place and drink all your beer. Figured it would make you feel better........ya, I'm a good guy that way! :hihi:

I paid around 200 bucks to put an E3 on the back of my bike. I'd have been hacked about paying that much too!

I can't swear to it, but if you push the issue, there should be something available per the mfr. of the tire. And for the price the guy stuck it to you with, it should be a lifetime one!!!

Good luck!

Hi Joe i have a friend that has AAA road service i think it's the rv upgrade that covers his cars and his bike. long story short while we were in wyoming last year he had a flat on the rear , called AAA and had them tow it 100 miles to nearest shop and there was no charge. Bike shop charged him $180 for tire mounted and bal with new valve stem and that was with it still on the bike, so yes they stuck it to ya. thank's for the info of were not to stop in tennessee. i forgot there labor to change it was $45. took about half an hour

joe, sounds like he charged you list on the tire and the stem. the wing stems aren't cheap. mounting cost is not out of line if it was balanced. we only have one dealer in our area that has tire sales on bike tires, thats cuz he sells over the internet too. the list price on tires is unbelievable. i buy all mine on the net. if the dealer has an attitude that is another story. can't handle a business with an attitude. i got run out of a big bike dealer here in st. charles, and was told not to come back. he had the worlds worst attitude. :2133:
