diggerc Posted June 21, 2010 #1 Posted June 21, 2010 Just wondering how often ,the Valve;s should be adjusted ?Is every 40,000 km to long ?it looks like it will be quite a job. Thanks Stan
tpalshadow Posted June 22, 2010 #4 Posted June 22, 2010 Is it hard to adjust valves? I thought I saw somewhere you are supposed to do that before syncing carbs.
Guest Swifty Posted June 22, 2010 #5 Posted June 22, 2010 Mine were checked at 125,000kms and didn't need adjusting, checked again at 160,000kms, 8 valves needed adjusting, checked again at 190,000kms, the remaining 8 were adjusted, some were technically still within specs, but adjusted to be well within tolerances. If I can do it, the motivated wannabe mechanic can do it.
casabroker Posted June 22, 2010 #6 Posted June 22, 2010 By the time you buy the tools shims etc. Having someone do it for may make sense. It aint all that easy.
Freebird Posted June 22, 2010 #7 Posted June 22, 2010 Yea, you can do it but after watching Goose do mine on Friday at Maintenance Day, I saw how much work it was. It takes several hours. The worse part is just getting to them. As for doing them before syncing the carbs, it is not necessary. We sync many sets of carbs without checking the valves.
MiCarl Posted June 22, 2010 #8 Posted June 22, 2010 The worse part is just getting to them. Agreed. Once you get to them they're pretty easy to do.
Yammer Dan Posted June 22, 2010 #9 Posted June 22, 2010 26,000 miles. Or every 26 yrs as some of them go. Take good care of your engine, change oil as you should and you will probally never find valves out of spec enough to worry about. And taking good care of your engine does not mean treating it like a baby.
