Guest tx2sturgis Posted June 14, 2010 #1 Posted June 14, 2010 Ran into this fella on a white Royal Star..pulling this large trailer. He said his name is George and he lives in Miami Tx. I told him about this website...maybe he can join us sometime. Interesting addition, that might not be very easily seen in this picture...he added a kickstand to the RIGHT side of the bike...he said it came in handy pulling the trailer, on certain angles and parking positions. Hmmmm.... You can easliy see that his bike is leaning the opposite way they normally do when parked, as mine shows on the left side of the picture.
Dave77459 Posted June 14, 2010 #2 Posted June 14, 2010 Did he point out his improvement, or did you notice it? I think it could come in handy! Dave
RandyR Posted June 14, 2010 #3 Posted June 14, 2010 Atlanta Dragon Slayer has 2 KS on his 1st Gen....
N3FOL Posted June 14, 2010 #4 Posted June 14, 2010 I really don't mind 2 kickstand on the bike. I'm just not sure that the right side kickstand may be in the way of the Carbon One adapter and lift. Not a bad idea at all.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted June 14, 2010 #5 Posted June 14, 2010 (edited) Did he point out his improvement, or did you notice it? I think it could come in handy! Dave Kindve like 2 front doors on every car, huh? Well to be honest, he pointed it out to me...I had actually just stopped to say hello, and we got to talking about his trailer. I think the bike was parked on the left side kickstand when I rolled up...I'm not certain of that, but he did point out the ambidextrous nature of his bike without me having to ask! So I snapped a pic with my iphone, in case I had to tell this story without proof! Edited June 14, 2010 by tx2sturgis
wes0778 Posted June 14, 2010 #6 Posted June 14, 2010 Atlanta Dragon Slayer has 2 KS on his 1st Gen.... Speaking of Bob, haven't seen him post anything lately, anyone know if he is OK?
RandyR Posted June 14, 2010 #7 Posted June 14, 2010 Speaking of Bob, haven't seen him post anything lately, anyone know if he is OK? He rode with us Saturday. I think there's a picture of him in the Georgia M&E thread. he's doing ok. btw, he said he needs to sell the 2 1st gen parts bikes he has.. (plug) as he has to move soon.
Dragonslayer Posted June 16, 2010 #9 Posted June 16, 2010 Speaking of Bob, haven't seen him post anything lately, anyone know if he is OK? Hea Walter, I'm still breathing and did manage to ride on the N. Ga M&E last saturday. Thanks for asking. I haven't been real active for the past few months because life's been a little hectic lately but I'm still here. I thought I had the only bike in the world with a right side kick stand. Once again my uniqueness is eroding.......or imitation is the highest form of flatery...... or I'm glad the idea may be catching on....... It is a very handy mod.
slick97spirit Posted June 16, 2010 #10 Posted June 16, 2010 That was an interesting looking trailer too!
Black Owl Posted June 16, 2010 #11 Posted June 16, 2010 Someone from Canada had two side stands on his 1st Gen at the original PC gathering. Maybe it was Swifty????
short-haul Posted June 16, 2010 #12 Posted June 16, 2010 Right side would make it easier to check the oil i would think

I'm very much interested in adding a kickstand to the right side of my 2nd gen, due to screwing up my left leg recently. Was there ever any instructions posted on how to do this mod?

What about a show-stand? I think a few members on here use them. Or maybe a centerstand would work, if you can put pressure on the lifting tang...

Or maybe a centerstand would work, if you can put pressure on the lifting tang... I'm not really interested in a center stand. I need something for everyday use. I plan on just mounting the bike from the right from now on. I have a small Shadow as well and it's easy to mount from the right, even with it leaning left. The RSV though will definitely need a right side kickstand. If I have too, I'll just switch the stock one over and mod it, but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of having one on each side.

Hey Bob; Could you tell me how much of a job it is to add the rightside kicstand? I have a messed up left leg and with the brace I have to wear it is hard for me to work the left side KS. Thanks; Don
Dragonslayer Posted September 16, 2010 #17 Posted September 16, 2010 I'm not really interested in a center stand. I need something for everyday use. The RSV though will definitely need a right side kickstand. If I have too, I'll just switch the stock one over and mod it, but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of having one on each side. They way mine was done was that they took a regular left side stand and rotated it to the right side. The foot part appears to be facing backwards but it works fine. The pivot point rotates on a fabricated plate that is welded on the removal section on the right side frame. The bike tends to lean a little more on the right side stand. But, unless you park with the right side leaning downhill it is not really a problem. The right side stand does not have a kickstand safety switch but that never bothered me. Another benefit of the right side stand is that you can remove the stator cover plate and the middle gear bearing cover if necessary without draining the oil while it is leaning on the right side stand.
