So I call the Yammi Dealer in Baton Rouge (Friendly Yamaha; 10939 Airline Highway) and explain to the Service Manager my situation with the pooched fuel pump. She confirmed my VIN Number and that the scoot was still under Warranty.

Trade the pooched pump for a new one and save them a bit of time in labor? Not on your life. The scoot has to be brought in and they have to do everything.

I have to wonder if the folks at Yammi who set policy really have the customers best interest at heart when it comes to stuff like this. I have NO intention of trailering the scoot there and letting them do anything.

Just gives me a bad case of red a$$ and solidifys my decision to keep my 06 and never buy another new scoot from them..... no matter what upgrades/improvements they come out with on the future Ventures.

Boomer....who's really gonna dish out a beating to dem pygmies now.

This is 2 side coin for sure.

1 The warranty work is keeping dealers a float right now and that is nice chunk for labor change, they would be losing out on if everyone did...I see there point..

2 I see your point and which is mine as well I don't want someone touching my bike I don't know nor can I see what they are doing and I suppose to trust them..NOT..

That is why I stay in touch here, I have learn so much...

Roger that Larry.....This Site is the best thing we have going for us....not just for info....The true friends I have made here is unlike anything I have ever experienced.

My dealer lets me do that, he give me the parts ,I put them on ,he gets paid for the parts and labor. It's a win win for him. Most times he lets me keep the old parts.

Ride safe Bob.

I also called the Yammi Dealers in Lafayette and Alexandria regarding this....Policy is iron-clad here in Loozeeanner it seems.

Boomer.....who sez East Texas is starting to look better for homesteading.....and wondering how I can sneak the pygmies into Gilley's.

I am so fed up with Sharp's Honda in Amarillo that I am consdering selling the Venture and buying another bike, not a Yamaha. I took the bike to them to get the I basket installed on May, 28 and still don't have the bike back. They had the basket when I took the bike over, I know this because I asked them to let me see the part before I left the bike. When I call to see when I will get the bike back they just say "we will call you when it is ready".

i thought with a dealer it works like this

sir you can come here and get the part and install it your self it will save us time and labor.

but sir i have to inform you that you need this special tool to remove it. our cost around $75. but we have a loaner program here on tools. just put that $75 down as a deposit. come back after you replace that fuel pump. bring back the tool and get your $75 back

oh and sir i must alos inform you if you do the work and you mess it up some how

then the warranty is now void

I can't blame the dealer for wanting to install the fuel pump and I would want them to install it. If I installed it and something went wrong yamaha could say I didn't install it correctly. If the dealer installs it and something goes wrong they have to make it right.

I assume dealers south of the 49th must be a lot different than the ones I have dealt with here! Any I have taken snowmobiles or bikes to for repair warranty or other wise have been well trained and done good work. Not cheap but no different than car repair places! Just my experience! Ken!

I offered to sign a waiver relieving them of all responsibilty and voiding the Warranty on the new fuel pump as well because of my self-installation. No dice.

The 2 issues I have with this policy are 1) I have to trailer the scoot 60+ miles and have someone follow me in order to get back home. 2) The amount of time it would take them to get the job done....Of 3 Dealers I talked to the least amount of time quoted for the job was 2 weeks!

If it is not already apart, I'd go get it ready or not. On second thought, I have a trailer, I'd go get it regardless!!!

I went to the Stealer here in the Jackson, MS area last week for a CB passenger transmit button. I also wanted the little chrome inserts that push in the handlebar mounting bolts and the master cylinder mounting bolts. Well they had the one that I needed for the handlebar bolt, but did not stock the smaller ones. I only needed three, but the parts guy said to special order them I had to buy the "package quantity" of 5. Only $3.00 and change, for the 5. Ok, what the heck order them. Well when I went to pick them up there was only one in the package. I brought this to their attention, to which they said "oh, you only ordered one". When I said I paid for the package, I was informed that I did not that the little plugs were $3.00+ EACH. Of course the parts guy I dealt with was on vacation this week. I paid my additional $7.00 for the two I needed and left MAD!!! :headache:

The easy way around that is to just buy the fuel pump yourself and install it. Then you and the dealer will be happy.

At least they are still willing to try to work on it.

I went in to the stealer to see about brakes and was told to get a new bike. Mine is unrepairable..... All it needed was pads. They will not even try to order parts for me.

Good thing for being able to shop the internet and this site.

when it quits, go in house, open a beer and call roadside assist when they arrive, walk out and have them haul it to the dealer. No trailer - no problem. dealer does work and has responsibility.

That's an option I choose not to use....and FYI....Yammi Roadside does NOT pay the extra $$$ for a flatbed hauler.

Getting the scoot ready ASAP is my game plan....otherwise I miss Don's MD for the 4th year inna row.

Pump and tools are in route to Looezeanner as we speak.

He will make MD and drink the single malt and smoke a stogey too. :dancefool::dancefool:

NOT TO WORRY! :missingtooth:

Get your stuff packed and get ready to head out.

DO NOT pack extra pygmies for everyone either. :yikes:

I guess I could have come and installed it too! I didn't want to be pushy! :moon::moon::moon:

You know replacing the fuel pump is a ten minute job. That will give him plenty of time on Monday or Tuesday to shine the Bat Signal with his HIDs, and I can get over there if needed.

Maybe over the weekend I'll buy a Mr. Gasket and some fittings to have on hand for when I need it next time. If it isn't BoomerCPO, it might be someone else. :)
