star4772 Posted June 10, 2010 #1 Posted June 10, 2010 I got now my new RSTD and want to know if all the drive line is the same as the RSV? I think they should be the same bike except for the cosmetics Etc Etc. Star4772 :confused24:
SilvrT Posted June 10, 2010 #2 Posted June 10, 2010 As far as I know, all the mechanical stuff is the same. What's not the same is pretty obvious.
Sleeperhawk Posted June 10, 2010 #3 Posted June 10, 2010 Same engine, same radiator, same driveline, same rear and front wheel, same whine, same grin
BEER30 Posted June 10, 2010 #4 Posted June 10, 2010 Not comparing the RSV to a Harley , But wasn't HD's first bike an Ultra Classic and as time went by .....let's say a couple of months go by, parts rattled off to soon become a Sportster ? BEER30

BEER30 OK, so when the parts rattled off the Sportster, what then do we have?
star4772 Posted June 10, 2010 Author #6 Posted June 10, 2010 As far as I know, all the mechanical stuff is the same. What's not the same is pretty obvious. This is true, but I was just wondering for the sake of oil filter and so forth. Thanks Joe
Jerry W Posted June 10, 2010 #7 Posted June 10, 2010 Yes, they are the same bike as far a mechanics are concerned.
SilvrT Posted June 10, 2010 #8 Posted June 10, 2010 This is true, but I was just wondering for the sake of oil filter and so forth. Thanks Joe yep, same engine, same oil filter, even the same oil ... enjoy and ride safe!
Dave77459 Posted June 10, 2010 #9 Posted June 10, 2010 This is true, but I was just wondering for the sake of oil filter and so forth. Thanks Joe If you ever get your hands on the RSTD shop manual, you'll see it is the RSV manual with an addendum for the RSTD. All the addendum covers is the headlamp, windscreen, passenger seat, fuel tank, cruise control, and electrical differences. About half are replacement pages of electrical diagrams, since the RSV has that fairing and cassette player that the RSTD does not. There are not replacements for mechanical systems, because they are just the same. Seems to me that there are tips on how to keep your throttle slack, since the RSTD is so much faster than the RSV. Dave You know I was wondering if it was faster then the RSV it sure did seem like it. Dont know
SilvrT Posted June 10, 2010 #11 Posted June 10, 2010 You know I was wondering if it was faster then the RSV it sure did seem like it. Dont know It's not really faster.... it's just that all that extra wind makes a guy think they're going faster
Dave77459 Posted June 10, 2010 #12 Posted June 10, 2010 It's not really faster.... it's just that all that extra wind makes a guy think they're going faster Are you saying RSV drivers are expert at breaking wind? Kinda thought so.... Dave
SilvrT Posted June 10, 2010 #13 Posted June 10, 2010 Are you saying RSV drivers are expert at breaking wind? Kinda thought so.... Dave :rotf: maybe too much information but just FYI ... I know I am an expert! (we are talking about the same thing here aren't we?? LOL)
KiteSquid Posted June 10, 2010 #14 Posted June 10, 2010 OK, so when the parts rattled off the Sportster, what then do we have? A whizzer wihch was made by Harley-Davidson http://www.motorcycle-memories.com/postersbig/82.%201948%20Whizzer.jpg
