I PUT IN WORN OUT NEEDLE JETS FROM THE SPARE CARBS>>>>DUMB ME! And may have to change them jets back to originals. Remove carbs, bowls, jet blocks and replace needle jets, gaskets , o-rings....aka...tear down. If you have never done it...you would not know. NOT FUN doing it over again. I am venting ...,It sucks being me... I'll just sit in the corner and cry now.:depressed: Did I mention I have Venture motorcycle OCD....thanks...

I think it's the best bang for the buck modification we can make. The second best would be the beefed up fork braces... Sorry for the cheap plug, but I still have left overs from the last group buy.... :big-grin-emoticon:

What do you mean with "Total tear down"?

Also what color is your 88 Standard?

Stripped and soaked each carb in a coffe can of coleman camp fuel for a week minimum. Blew out all passages with carb cleaner. All gaskets, float valve, o- rings, decel diaphragm and main diaphragms replaced.

My std is silver and brown. What color is yours?

Mine is Salt Lake Silver and Gray, and it's the second one I've had... both the same colors.

Here's what I've been observing with several tanks of gas, new plugs, new Diaphraigms with slides, carbs sync.

75-80 mph I get 30 mpg

70 " " " 33 "

65 " " " 35 "

60 " " " 38 "

55 " " " 41 "

All flat country, very few hills, first three were on Interstates, the last two had lots of stopping in small towns.

I'll be pulling a couple of plugs to see how they look. Pipes are still sooty on the ends and the old plugs were also sooty. When I've got my legs out on the Road Pegs I can smell Rich exhaust fuems.

Here's a picture of my bike all loaded down with the "Mrs" on the back.

I was going to do the needle shim mod but I discovered I have the adjustable needles. It was already set to its leanest notch, so I left it alone. I've only run a couple of tanks through it so far...and not even a full one with all 4 carbs working right.

The exhaust is a bit sooty but it's not blowing black so I'll probably leave it since it's running great.
