Hummingbird Posted June 5, 2010 #1 Posted June 5, 2010 I'm having a dickens of a time getting audio thru my headsets. When I play XM radio thru the speakers they will draw police attention because it can be loud. As soon as I switch to the headsets the volume drops to less than half. When using the headsets with the CB on and the XM on, I have to have the XM volume so loud it almost causes ringing in my ears just so that I get a faint CB reception. I know there is an answer - I just can't seem to find it. HELP !! btw - I have a Garmin 450
LilBeaver Posted June 5, 2010 #2 Posted June 5, 2010 I'm a little confused. You say that you have to have your 'radio' volume turned up to get CB reception? The CB and the 'radio' (tape, aux, AM/FM radio, etc. -- basically the audio) have separate volume controls. To adjust the CB volume, push the CB button and then turn the knob. You will see a little 'C' in the lower left corner of the display while you are changing the CB volume. to go back to set the audio volume just push the 'audio' button on the controller. I find that when I switch from the headsets to the speakers, I have a difference of maybe 4 or 5 volume numbers (higher for when in the speakers). I usually have the CB volume set to around 12 and the radio (coming through the speakers) somewhere between 13 and 15 depending on how strong the wind is as well as how good of reception I have from the source. I don't know if this is what your issue is or not. If it isn't then we can revisit some other options.
Hummingbird Posted June 5, 2010 Author #3 Posted June 5, 2010 That sounds like what I need to do - if you think you're confused, wish you were here lol I'm going to try it now - see what happens
Hummingbird Posted June 5, 2010 Author #4 Posted June 5, 2010 OK - perhaps you showed me the way. First, I didn't know there were separate volume controls, second, I think my radio control lcd is not right. (broken ?) see the pics - one is the cb on ch 2 and the other is the volume level - is this what it's supposed to look like ??
LilBeaver Posted June 5, 2010 #5 Posted June 5, 2010 Yea, yours looks fine to me. What makes you think that it doesn't? I have attached pics of mine for comparison. Note that my flash washed out the orange back-light. 1) Radio on 2) Radio on changing volume 3) CB on 4) CB on changing volume
Hummingbird Posted June 5, 2010 Author #6 Posted June 5, 2010 Ok - I guess my radio control is OK after all. My confusion it seems is that I didn't have a clue that there were 2 volume controls. Sure would have been nice to have that information for the trip over to RT and back. Thanks for your help Dick aka - adventure 1943
