RandyR Posted June 5, 2010 #3 Posted June 5, 2010 I think I'm going to buy stock in whatever company it is that makes the ABS glue that's holding them together...
BEER30 Posted June 5, 2010 #4 Posted June 5, 2010 You may want to lock up the 2nd Gen. No telling if your new neighbor will do a switch-R-roo on you in the middle of the night.
dingy Posted June 5, 2010 #5 Posted June 5, 2010 You may want to lock up the 2nd Gen. No telling if your new neighbor will do a switch-R-roo on you in the middle of the night. More likely it would be the other way around !! Gary
Owen Posted June 5, 2010 #6 Posted June 5, 2010 A first gen moved in across the street. I guess I should be polite and say hello. I don't want to seem snooty. Take him a house warming gift, something he can really use, like an extra quart of oil!
halfwitt Posted June 5, 2010 Author #8 Posted June 5, 2010 Soooo, when will he be on line here???? I printed off some VR business cards tonight and will go introduce myself tomorrow.

MiCarl Posted June 5, 2010 #14 Posted June 5, 2010 If you want a good look at the front of a 1st gen this is your chance. Go spy on it while he's busy unpacking. Once he starts riding you're unlikely to see the front again.

Karl C. Posted June 5, 2010 #16 Posted June 5, 2010 wow you guys tough on the 1st gens... lol.. would you rather have a very loud cycle next door, or maybe a slowing???!!!Ö¿Ö
halfwitt Posted June 5, 2010 Author #17 Posted June 5, 2010 So I met the owner of the 83 1st gen today. He's retired from HD. Nice guy. No internet access though. He said he would check out VR from his daughter's computer. He said, "I saw your Harley over there." I told him, "that's not a Harley. Your Venture will grow up to be that Venture!" He needs help adjusting his carbs, so I'll give him a hand with that. He's looking for a good repair manual so let me know if you have any suggestions. The bike runs good and is real clean. It shows 19k on the clock. He said that one plug had some oil on it. Any thoughts on that? If any first gen owners are coming through the York PA area, he would love to meet you and get any tips.
Venturous Randy Posted June 5, 2010 #18 Posted June 5, 2010 An oily/wet looking plug may indicate a bad carb diaphragm. Make sure he checks his oil level on the centerstand. Sure is nice to have one of you highly mechanical 2nd genners help us out with our poor 1st gens. RandyA

When cold there is some hesitation on the low end that goes away quickly as it warms up. When it's warm it runs real good. I'll pass along your ideas. On his behalf, THANKS!
bongobobny Posted June 6, 2010 #20 Posted June 6, 2010 Well, Mr Witt, you are just going to have to organize a few more SE Pa rides then...
MasterGuns Posted June 6, 2010 #21 Posted June 6, 2010 A first gen moved in across the street. I guess I should be polite and say hello. I don't want to seem snooty. I'd consider myself lucky, could had been a LA Harley.
