star4772 Posted June 3, 2010 #1 Posted June 3, 2010 Well I went and took the new 08 RSTD. Couple of questions I would like to put on some kind of trunk and a better passanger riding seat any ideas? I hope to pick it up this weekend. For the cost diff. of 5500 verses thr RSV and how much riding I will be doing in the next few years I thought this was the way to go for now. Same bike as the RSV except for the trunk, fairing, cb and stereo. I can always customize it with extras yes? Will take any suggestions my fellow members have. Thanks Joe
slick97spirit Posted June 3, 2010 #2 Posted June 3, 2010 Congrats, it's a beauty. You'll learn to love the bike and with the info you'll pick up here, wrenching is just as much fun.
utadventure Posted June 3, 2010 #3 Posted June 3, 2010 Great looking!!! IMHO, a good tourpak will give you the long range storage you need for a long trip instead of a trunk. Have Rick Butler redo your seats and they'll keep you comfy for many a mile. I would also suggest the J&M CB/intercom for you and your pillion. Dave

Dave77459 Posted June 3, 2010 #7 Posted June 3, 2010 Comments. Great looking!!! IMHO, a good tourpak will give you the long range storage you need for a long trip instead of a trunk. Agreed. I got the Kuryakn Ultratour bag and it works great for long weekends with the wife or weeks for me. I recently added a trailer for those times when I need super storage. Have Rick Butler redo your seats and they'll keep you comfy for many a mile. Agreed. Wife loves the seat up to 400 miles/day (so far), and mine is good for 1000+. Get it here on VR. I would also suggest the J&M CB/intercom for you and your pillion. I got the Scala Rider G4 so we could talk wirelessly. It's OK, but... my review here. Dave I also got a set of Kuryakn Switchblade pegs with the Longhorn Offset mounts. Discussed. You might, in fact, check out the entire Royal Star Tour Deluxe Owners unite! thread to see what all people have done. Congrats on your choice! Dave
utadventure Posted June 3, 2010 #8 Posted June 3, 2010 You can get all kinds of different tour packs. I think there you'll have to check out a few for quality and price. Dave gave a great link to Rick's seat mod. Worth every penny!! The J & M can be purchased numerous places. If you have a passenger, get the JMCB-2003-DU. This gives you a CB for group communications, intercom for you and your passenger and a 3.5mm plug to connect to an MP3 player or other devices. I bought my wifes at www.sierra-mc.com and the antenna from Right Channel Radios. I could have bought it all at Right Channel but Sierra provided free shipping. Give us a little time, we'll help you spend that $5500....LOL We haven't even started on farkle!! Dave
uechi kid Posted June 3, 2010 #9 Posted June 3, 2010 You might check with Lone Eagle about a trunk setup. I know he has a Harley trunk but I have no idea what kind of mounting brackets he has. Congrats on the new ride. You're going to love it.
naturbar Posted June 3, 2010 #10 Posted June 3, 2010 Where to aquire these things? Joe check out my detachable tour pak bracket ($225.00 & you pay shipping).....http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35033

You need to buy the JMCB-2003-DU plus headsets plus antenna? What headsets did you get? Antenna? I might do something different than the Scala Rider G4 in a do-over. Dave
utadventure Posted June 3, 2010 #12 Posted June 3, 2010 In order for the system to function, you need: JMCB-2003 SL or DU Antenna 18' Antenna Cable Antenna Mounting Bracket (I made my own with a machinist friend) Headsets - I have the JM Elite 584 Appropriate Lower Cord - One each for Rider and Pillion (I have the 5-pin for the Venture and Jan needed the 6-pin to go with the JMCB) It will cost some $$$ to get setup but worth it in the long run. Dave

Dave TYVM! I have the RSTD, so it looks like 6-pins for me. Now I just need to win the Lotto! Dave

bj66 Posted June 3, 2010 #15 Posted June 3, 2010 if you want to have a stereo and not break the bank, try this site. the speakers are waterproof the tuner isnt. You can plug in your mp3 player, or listen to fm radio if you want.http://www.gooddeals18.com/product/SHKMSM2050K/new-Motorcycle--yacht-2-speakers--amplifier--radio--usb--sd--wireless-remote.html I have the 100 watt set. it is ok. i have barons slash cut pipes on my 08, they are loud. and i can still hear the radio, but you may want to go with a little more power. Also I dont usually wear a helmet, so that makes a big difference. nice color on the bike it looks familiar
