midnite Posted May 30, 2010 #1 Posted May 30, 2010 Pulled trailer for first long distance the other day. Noticed at about 65-70 mph had a vibration in bike. Gone through bearings, it is a HF trailer. Not real sure if it ain't in the engine, seemed to do it worse when pulling a grade. What do ya'll think problem might be. Had about 25# tongue wieght.
Kross Kountry Posted May 30, 2010 #2 Posted May 30, 2010 Tongue weight is good. If you don't have a vibration without the tailer, then I'd say one your trailer tires is out of balance. I get this same problem with bumper trailer behind a pickup. Once the trailer is loaded it's not as noticeable. If you think it's the bike, I would start by checking the carb sync then check your spark plugs.
midnite Posted May 30, 2010 Author #3 Posted May 30, 2010 Thought about the plugs. Just had carbs synced abou a month ago. Will have to check balance on tires.
Sling Posted May 30, 2010 #4 Posted May 30, 2010 I had the same problem pulling my Tag-Along trailer, It turned out to the tires.. Some people say they don't work, but I put Dyna Beads in the tires and the vibration went away. Here is a write-up about them Hope this helps http://www.bestrestproducts.com/c-100-dyna-beads.aspx
Brake Pad Posted May 30, 2010 #5 Posted May 30, 2010 this sounds wierd, but make sure the pressure is equal on the front shocks
BradT Posted May 30, 2010 #6 Posted May 30, 2010 What gear ? If you were in fifth I would suspect that is the problem. Too low of engine RPM. Drop it down to 4th or 3rd and see if it is still there ? If it is l would look at the tires, or trailer bearings Brad
Monty Posted May 31, 2010 #7 Posted May 31, 2010 Probably related to the vibration you had BEFORE you bought the trailer. I think they could be related.
midnite Posted June 3, 2010 Author #8 Posted June 3, 2010 Think I found problems. Bearings were too tight, tire pressures were off, and the biggest problem was rear shock had leaked air down to about 5 #. Greased and reset bearings, adjusted tire pressures, and aired up rear shock to about 40#, rides pretty smooth now.
